disclaimer: I am not a Schott fan boy, I don't own the jacket in the OP nor do I intend to buy it.

I didn't make the claim that anyone has said anything about fakes. I just read quite a few comments how people dislike artificial aging (this has also been discussed here before). At the same time folk around here seems like what Thedi is doing and Eastman too with .50 cal. I like it too!

Take a look at the pictures at Schott website - their studio pictures are bad, as usual, but those taken with model wearing this jacket are much better looking IMHO.

By the way I find quite odd to say that Thedi and .50 cal are ok, as they are done "properly". For your own opinion only that is of course fine, but as it seems to me that you state it as general opinion, Who gets to decide what is "properly"? Is it TFL jury or maybe the consumers in general? If latter, Schott would win "properly" title hands down. Or is it level of aging? One scrub too much and "oops, its not proper any more!".
I didn't say you did any claim. It was just my opinion on the matter.

The Schott does look fake because the fade in the leather is just random, doesn't follow any pattern based on the use of the leather jacket, the sleeves usually only get those markes in the areas at the top of the creases and the elbow area not random scuffs and discoloration all over the sleeves. Also the hardware is just too new for the abuse the jacket has been gone through.

Thedi and Eastman understand how leather ages and they work on it accordingly giving in the end a better product and more natural wear. That's what I mean by properly, the jacket should look like it has been used and not distressed on purpose which is how the Schott looks to me.

Agreed, the Schott one just looks like a disk sander accident, Thedi and ELC give it a natural looking aging.
Personally i don't like it when they start sanding/staining the jackets, but i am all for using water to shape sleeve creases.
Nothing worst looking than straight tubular sleeves IMO.

I can’t help thinking that if this exactly same jacket had Thedi logos and it would been captured better on film, that most people would have a different view on the matter.

I own a couple of .50cal jackets, I won't be buying another because, dare I say, I find them a bit boring, putting in your own wear and tear is much more fun imo.
Oh and I don't like the Schott in the op.

a bit too much, I don't dislike the idea for a shop decoration, but not to be bought as new,
I have the same opinion about those thedis, they look great as advertisement and their shop decoration, but I dislike the idea to have a brand new leather looking like that no matter how properly or masterfully done it is.

Interesting point and I agree that the shots of the jacket being worn certainly soften the the "aged" effect and it appears much less dramatic. I would now shift my focus on the price, which makes the jacket even more stupid and negates the stupidity argument with regard to artificial aging, b/c no way in hell I'd pay 1/2 the asking price there. Just. NO.

To me the aging a Thedi has from all that I’ve seen is more wrinkles and creases. Maybe a dulling effect on the color etc...but I haven’t seen one that appeared to have color removed, or a sanded down like appearance. To my original comment I’m not a fan of how it looks and I don’t like new jackets that look that worn. But I don’t think it’s dumb for them to do it. All the top makers have or currently are doing variations on this. So why not Schott? I’m sure it will sell and they are allowed to do it as any maker are. I just think this style looks bad.

I haven't read anyone saying that the .50 Cal from Eastman looks fake or from Thedi because those are done properly.
Consider it said. The principle that applies to the legal tender applies to leather, and to denim as well: counterfeit, no matter how skillful the artifice, is no good.

Well said! We should all limit ourselves in wearing raw hides, like our ancesters once did! We don’t any of that modern tanning or finishing that changes the apperance of the real thing! And this is not an opinion, its a god given fact! [emoji12]

Interesting points.

But I've just found something that's actually really stupid. Like, probably the dumbest thing I've ever seen in the heritage scene.

https://www.selfedge.com/jackets-vests?product_id=2220

"This is Fine Creek Leathers' take on the classic double riders jacket with the epaulets and belt loops cut off. The way the edges of the cut off horsehide age with time is truly beautiful."

$2K for a jacket that's actually ruined. Like, ruined as in ruined. Actually ruined. Two thousand dollars. Smooth. Real smooth.

But the description...

The way the edges of the cut off horsehide age with time is truly beautiful.

The edges...

...of the cut off horsehide age with time...

...cut off edges age with time...

You can't even make that stuff up. You just can't.

I don't even...

I was actually going to quote that exact sentence as the new stupidest thing i had read regarding leather!

Why? Who wants this? Who is on eBay looking for vintage cut up jackets with beautiful edges?
I am confused...

It's possibly the dumbest blurb I've read in my life. Who... How do you even write that? How do you sit down and write that???

The jacket is a pure, 100% runway piece, something belonging in a "Just when you thought you had seen it all . . ." thread, there's no debate there, but that line...

Yep, this sentence also made me wonder what on earth they are on:

"Depending on the panel they'll use a different type of stitch thread and thread count to achieve puckering in certain areas for added character."

Looks to me like they are trying to sell random uneven stitching as a positive thing!
This is a very confusing sales pitch, i really wonder who their target audience is. I have never looked for "puckering" in my stitching and i have a tendency to inspect things closely...

I believe that this thing is made exclusively for the most hard core Japanese cosplayers. Those guys who dress up in that 50's biker gear. And it just translates badly outside of Japan. No other explanation. Nobody else on any side of the spectrum would even get this.

The whole thing is a bad, sad joke.

I know i can be annoying/confusing to the uninitiated when i start going on about leather type, patterns and stitch-count, but imagine how much of a knob you have to be to tell someone: "they are so good at stitching that they achieve bad stitching/puckering on purpouse! They also cut up bits of the jacket on purpouse to make it look like it belonged to an old guy who didn't care about anything!"

I would feel like the biggest douche saying that, not sure i could do it...

Ok, even I won’t start playing devil’s advocate for that.

What next? Maybe they will start creating fake old jacket smell to spray on new jackets: ”Almost like real road grime, chain oil, beer, urine, cheap parfume and mold - just fuller and stronger scent!”
