This is was the jacket Lee produced in response to the Levi's 506 posted above. I love this jacket, but just never wear it.

They did, but then so did everyone else. The buttoned, pleated front denim jacket with one or two patch pockets became pretty ubiquitous up until the 50's.

All the big mail order stores had their own versions - Sears Roebuck, J C Penney, Montgomery Ward, along with companies like Wrangler and BigSmith.

In fact Lee were probably the first major company to break the mold with their new "modern" 101J, after WW2. Such was the success of the Lee jacket that Levi's were forced to introduce their Type 3 in the early 60's to win sales back from the Lee company.

And meanwhile, BlueBell Wrangler were being equally inventive, introducing zipper fronts and side pockets.

I often wonder why folks are so fixated by Levi Jackets. They ceased to be innovators well before WW2;)

Ive only been to two museums, but I believe I had seen that at the manitoba museum? Anyway I seen an awesome pair of wool trousers at the Thompson museum, not a bad idea sharing photos of vintage items from a museum

Big Smith Coveralls with perhaps a Headlight or a Key Chore Jacket underneath.

I love this kind of jacket too!

Maybe there is a thread in the Outerwear forum? I rarely go there since they are cat fighting about silly stuff all the time. :fish:

i know what you mean FFF.

this type of 'short zip-up wool jacket' doesn't seem to have a common name which is maybe why it hasn't had a thread yet (i've seen them called 'windbreakers' but i don't like that term myself).

And I thought I was the only person who ignores the 'Outerwear' thread! There just seems to be thousands of threads on leather jackets (90% of which look the same to me) and hardly anyone ever posts in the ''Show us your overcoats' thread.

+1

After years of enjoying the increase in FL discussions about leather - there's a lot of great makers doing great stuff, and this is exciting to see happening - it's no longer a bit of this forum I'm comfortable with. And it dominates. I'd like to see a specific leather section so we can get to other discussions more easily without trawling through all the leathery stuff.

Maybe it's time to suggest that to the bartenders? I also once suggested that the Classifieds thread has a seperate section for hat ads, since its difficult to find anything else in there. There are so many hat ads that its difficult to spot the suits etc and it means they fall far down the list very quickly.
