Back in the day, they would often make the dress very bare like and evening gowns, and then add a lace jacket, or coat, over it so that it was covered up for the wedding, and then after the wedding, the bride could cutoff the train and have a nice white evening gown.

Thanks!

I was looking for a picture of my ring and thought I'd share these too. Here are some pictures of our vintage-inspired wedding

We were married in McKinney, TX at the Chestnut Square Historic Village:

We were married in a turn-of-the-century chapel

Our reception was outdoors, and inside this lovely home:

I got ready inside one of the old houses, so here's a close-up of my dress. It was VI I think, I loved the lace

Here's a close-up of my necklace and matching earrings, Nadri from Nordstroms:

Here's the wedding topper I found on ebay:

Here's our wedding invitations. I did them myself from a kit I got at Target. Cost about $50 and they looked very high-end- lots of compliments. They had matching programs I made too

o0olibelulao0o, you might like the grooms cake. My mother-in-law made it- Texas themed :)

your pictures are beautiful! And what a great venue for your reception!

that grooms cake is awesome... and it makes me hungry! My fiance might get a grooms cake... that would be a great idea for inspiration :) Thanks!

It's so funny you ladies are discussing hydrangeas - I'm having some at my wedding too. Our colours are going to be green and orange (apricot/canteloupe type orange, not autumn orange, as the wedding will be in spring) and I ADORE green flowers in general and spring-green hydrangeas in particular. Looking at doing orange tulips or roses to compliment, hopefully says spring without saying Easter Bunny too loudly.

I love this etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6383914&section_id=5797245

Unique Vintage has some retro-style dresses that are pretty amazing, but I haven't made any decisions yet. In fact, here are my leading three contenders, can you ladies weigh in?

Choice 1: http://www.unique-vintage.com/antique-style-ivory-silk-wedding-gown-p-1501.html

Choice 2: http://www.unique-vintage.com/unique-vintage-prom-dresses-ivory-gold-lace-wedding-gown-p-2718.html

Choice 3: http://www.unique-vintage.com/vintage-inspired-ivory-embroidered-tulle-gown-p-1760.html

I love some of Unique Vintage's swing dresses but at only 5'0" tea-length doesn't really work on me. And looking at regular places like David's Bridal - why did they decide all women WANT and CAN wear strapless?! I need some kind of strap or sleeve or I am not getting it. :rage:

I love #1 and #3, but my favorite out of those two would be #1, personally :) Although I think any of those choices would be lovely.

Oh, and here's where we honeymooned in Fredericksburg. If you need somewhere to stay before you leave, or if you are staying in town? It was just lovely, so quiet. We were the only ones there, except for the longhorns, donkeys and cats that is-lol.

that place looks really nice! I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before!

My fiance and I are thinking about going to Cancun, but not like spring break cancun, there is a resort 20 minutes north of there called Excellence Playa Mujueres (my spelling might be off) but it looks beautiful! :)

I'm a fan of #3. But they are all very pretty. I like the idea of apricot and green hydrangeas. A little unexpected but very pretty. I think about the green hydrangeas with pink myself.

Texasgirl - what a gorgeous bride. I love the cake topper, your jewelry and your husbands suit. It looked like a perfect evening. Minnesota girls just can't bank on that kind of weather. :(

Thanks! Yes, we were very lucky. The night before it stormed really bad and we were worried. But we could have moved everything inside if we had to, but it all works out. All the worrying you do, and it all works out- a message to all the future brides ;)

I loved your site, Texasgirl. That building was STUNNING, so classic without being stuffy. I have no idea what we're doing for a site, yet.

Also, you guys both looked lovely.

I'm currently trying to figure out how to make a tiny budget go farther. Looking at doing the flowers myself, and my own makeup and hair.

I'm talking to other girls who are making their own cake or their own dress, but I'm not that ambitious/confident in my skills.

As far as makeup I'm currently thinking of learning how to do eyeliner (I never wear it now, can't get it to look right) and maybe artificial lashes because I was thinking of keeping the colour mostly on my lips, in a soft red, but still want some "pop" in my eyes for pictures. Does this sound reasonable? I don't think I have a mouth full enough for the Bardot nude lip look. Are fake lashes going to look cheesy?

I'm intimidated by all the people who are telling me I don't know how to do makeup "for the pictures."

What style veils go with '30s style dresses? I want to have long hair for the big day, because my guy loooooves long hair, but I don't know how to wear it. Bacall/Lake waves? Up?

Maybe try going to a makeup counter and asking for assistance? I think your idea sounds perfect, striking lips and a wee bit of definition for the eyes just to make sure the flash or something doesn't obliterate them?

As for stretching the cost, depending on the season, I think natural flowers can often be cheaper than fake ones. And if it's the correct growing season then the price might be more reasonable.

The Amazing Update No One Asked For ;)

The wedding has been moved from Feburary 2010 to summer, probably June 2010. This means my love of sleeveless dresses works out pretty dang well, and we have been offered a lovely site.

Are hair-flowers a vintage wedding look? I sort of love them.
