I'm guessing...Pettibone Yard, North Chicago, on the Chicago, North Shore, and Milwaukee Railroad (The North Shore Line). The road ceased operations less than 3 months after the photo was taken. Am I correct, Dan?

Agreed, and here is 'Mallard' at 75mph, 90mph and the world record breaking 126mph. Look at the connecting rods on the drive wheels, they are an absolute blur.
The designer, Nigel Gresley, was inspired by Bugatti motor cars, his aerodynamic design gave Mallard the edge to achieve the world record for a steam rail engine.
A record that stands to this day. The first carriage behind the engine carried all the equipment that accurately measured Mallard's speed. (You might spot the deliberate mistake. The film clip claims that the engine was: Union of South Africa. Not if that top speed was achieved.)

I cant even imagine what it must have been like in the cab at that speed! Talk about Rocking & Rolling. Here is the Daylight passing over a camera at less then half that speed, look at everything swaying to and fro!

Looks like a log dragger. The area where my vacation home is located (Wisconsin North Woods) was once a big lumber producing area. Not sure if they ever utilized this type of critter, but there was a narrow gauge line in the vicinity, long before all the summer resorts and vacation properties were developed. The first snowmobile ("motor toboggan") was developed in the area- supposedly. I'm guessing that a lot of areas make that same claim.

I was right. The artist (David Uhl) writes:

"I was inspired to feature our American Ingenuity back in the day. Totally fell in love with this steam powered Snow Behemoth. It was designed in Maine, and was used for logging. They would load up several cars with trees and haul them down the hill."

I went to the RR Motel Park in Dunsmuir over the weekend for a long ski weekend. IT WAS A BLAST!!! We stayed in a Santa Fe Railway caboose, hung out in the hot tub while it snowed and ate in a dining car from the turn of the century. The owners/managers were super nice and the best part was that Shasta is about 30 minutes away. I will upload pics when I get home.

My all time favorite steam locomotive is the N&W Class J. Here is the 611 located at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, VA.

When I was a kid in South Norfolk, VA we lived right at the tracks and I used to see these thunder by several times a day.

The 611 is under restoration again and will be doing excursions soon.

Have you ever seen an entrance to a railway tunnel as grand as this? The turreted and castellated north portal, along with its attached (privately owned) cottage perched directly over the line, is one of the more unusual and photogenic railway features on the London-Brighton Main Line, or in Sussex, and is now a Grade II listed building. It was designed by Mocatta and shares features with his Ouse Valley Viaduct. The portal was ornamented as a condition of the farmer who owned the land. The single storey cottage over the north portal, which is built in contrasting red brick and sits curiously off centre, was added in 1849 and was designed by John Urpeth Rastrick for the purpose of housing the lamp-lighter, who was tasked relighting the gas lamps in the tunnel after passing trains snuffed them out.

When i was a little girl, this was my favorite movie series. I fell in love with Doc (who wouldnt? a genius theoretical physicist with the ability to take you anywhere in time)...

Anyway, this was the train that started my interest and later love.... I hope to see real preservation sites one day.

Well, the bad news is, you can't take a flight on the Back To The Future III train, the good news is, you can get a ride on her! Old Sierra No. 3, called the movie star train, for all the movies and TV shows she's been in, is still running!

What a fine beast Old Sierra No.3 is. If you are into trains from the movies and you find yourselves on our Island, you can ride The Hogwarts Express or go back to Victorian times with The Railway Children.
