Ugh. My parents have flipped houses my entire life. Everything was always white, neutral. I swore I'd never have white rooms in my house after that.

All of my rooms have to be white. Each room a different color reminds me of some kind of Willie Wonka factory.

The problem with white walls in an old house is that they seem to highlight every lump, crack, patch, and flaw in the plaster. Colors, even muted colors, tend to camouflage such things. Which is why my living room walls are painted old-newsprint-tan.

That's exactly right. In my old house, I had that problem when I went to paint a room stark white. It looked awful!

In my line of business we call white a lack of decision. Like, oh, I cant make up my mind, I think I'll paint the wall white.

Before I bought the farm I live on now I looked at a lot of houses and flats and in every one of them the walls were painted white and it was horrible, I wasn't tempted to buy anyone of them

The farm on the other hand hadn’t been lived in since the mid seventies and hadn’t seen paint nor brush since the mid fifties. Full of lovely colours

I'm actually restoring most rooms in the main house to their original paneling and colours. I'm even painting them with handmade linseed oil paint (one of the advantages with my kind of education, I know how to make it) The only room that will not be original is the largest livingroom, it has oak parapet paneling I found in a dumpster a few years back. But the panel above it has got its original colour, a mild medium olive green

I only have two rooms that aren't the same color as the rest of the house, my living room and kitchen, and bath. Everything else is 'Yellow Sand' which is very close to Antique White, but with a little yellow glow, that gives it the warmth of an old yellow porch lamp bulb.

This is another reason why I never like white, even with modern drywall, I can see every flaw in my dad's work in the house.

Precisely, unless you feel like sanding plaster, and waiting two weeks for the dust to die down.

Personally, I find white walls too stark, and beige (generally) too boring. My mother always painted our walls in colour, though understated ones. Gives the room a nicer feel.

Much colour in the wall itself can severely limit what can be hung on it.

The other thing about colors is when you collect antiques, so much is dark-finished wood, or dark colors. A bright 'canvas' to display them upon really makes them pop.

That sounds an awful lot like white, navajo white and Mocha---which are really all just white.

I don't see a single flaw---even when having removed ugly, nasty wallpaper. If I kept the original colors it would make me sick. Every room had a wierd olive drab color to it. The guy must have worked for one of the bases out here and stole paint or something. It was horrible.:eeek:
I still have one original room that I use as a walk in closet thought. It is wonderful with a red ceiling and palm frond wallpaper on the walls. The door stays closed and locked.

That is what furniture and accessories are for. White matches everything and you don't need to coordinate the furntiture with the room. That is why all developers paint their houses white. It is easy to decorate, popular and more than likely it will sell well over purple, blue or green.

Exactly! It is a interior desinger's nightmare to have crazy color walls. lol lol lol

That's not why! They do it so that it's a blank canvas so you can imagine what color you want

Dark wood also clashes with many colors. Blue walls and dark wood ain't gonna make it.
