Soon to disappear: grown-adult signatures on our nation's currency.

Our new Treasury Secretary, ladies and gentleman, coming soon to the lower-right-hand-corner of paper money near you.

Hahahaha!! I saw that in the news last week. That's hilarious!

If you showed that to me, without any prior information about what it was, i wouldn't say it was a signature at all.

I think you've hit the nail on the head with this statement. Don't cross Mr. Nice Guy, though lol

It's a shame that people think kindness is an equivalent to doormat.

The problem, Tom, is that you are a nice guy. And these days, (in many instances), nice guy = schmuck.
I'm sure that if your friend had thought that you would be really upset by their not showing up at your event, he would have been more insistent with the boss. But "Tom's a nice guy, it will be OK" was probably the over-riding sentiment.

So, (back on-topic), a vintage thing that seems to have disappeared is nice guys being appreciated (instead of taken advantage of).

A vintage thing that seems to be coming back is the theory of if you aren't pumping out babies by the time you're a teenage, you're an old maid. A Victorian and prior mindset, I always thought, but it seems half the people or more I know under 20 are expecting.

Tom, get you a girl a bit older than you, who has the credit to buy most everything in the store, but realizes that's not a good idea. :)
I did that, and I've never regretted it.
Okay I do admit that impulse buying has it's downside, such as DVD's of shows we'll never watch.
I'd rather HAVE Hazel here cleaning my house, than WATCH her on tv.

I'm sure we've mentioned style on here, we had to. However, if I see one more clown with a dress shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes on (none of them matching colors btw) I'm going to scream. Those don't go together, never have and never will.

It isn't really a "Vintage" thing but with all this political correctness that permeates are entire existence now how about a sense of humor and that includes this site as well.Everybody seems to be so uptight about every aspect of life whether it be the type of car to drive, what to wear, global warming ect that they forget to laugh and enjoy themselves any longer.I'm certainly not saying that there aren't serious issues all around but wow take time to smell the coffee folks.OMO

There is a Right to Be OFFENDED. Using that shuts down discourse. It is the opposite of Sticks and Stones.

As I said John there definitely are reasons to be offended and upset and we all have the right to do so,but if folks spend their entire existence being pissed off all the time it makes for a lot of angry people running around.I never said that we shouldn't have concerns and trust me I know life isn't a bed of roses but shouldn't one find some enjoyment and humor in life at the same time?

Name calling is not good for sure, but the concept is that an opinion should not be dismissed by using some type of pigeon holing. What I am saying is if I have an opinion that someone doesn't like and they throw the "offended" line to undermine my opinion, that is not discourse it does not invalidate based on fact or perhaps even good manners.

The supposed Voltair quote about defending the right of anyone to hold an opinion is considered no longer valid by many.

There are things worth being offended about, but there certainly is value in laughing off the more pointless aspects of modern life. If I myself didn't laugh them off, I'd be in a rubber room.

As far as opinions go, I prefer Harlan Ellison's comment: "Everyone is entitled to an *informed* opinion." Of course, if that were strictly observed, the entire Internet would collapse in a week.

Miss Lizzie you would have to make reservations for that rubber room and when I made mine I was told there was a 6 month wait(haha)

I do believe that when someone is doing things like using slurs and trying to be hurtful that's when there is an offense. There is a defenition of "fighting words."

I was explaining to a younger cousin how media was handled in school when I was in grade school. Like being chosen to turn the slide projector when the tape/record beeped. Or the smell of tests hot off the mimeograph/"ditto" machine.

Both are dear to my heart. In the movie Animal House there is a scene of a test being handed out and the students all do the smell test.

Video was making it's way into my high school in the last couple of years so there was less times when a film got stuck and you watched it melt on the screen.

In my grade school the Music teacher would come to the class room with an electric piano on a cart.

Nuclear war drills - Let's all drop and cover in the hallway!

Every year for a while we got new Milk containers that were sealed in many different and imaginative ways. The waxed cartons were yelchy.
