Vintage style while doing chemo ?

Start chemo March 9 !
Have searched the internet high and low looking for cool styling tips while undergoing chemo and guess what ? nada zip zilch zero.........
I cannot be the only vintage gal out there in this situation

Perhaps you could change that? Maybe blogging about your experience and tips and tricks you've picked up will help other women in the future in your situation, and give you something to do and keep your spirits up when you're not feeling so great.

All the best for starting your chemo, my step-aunt started hers just about 3 weeks ago (breast cancer too, just like yours. Virtually undetectable with NO family history). Kick that cancer in the butt, blondie!

More specific ideas for you

Here are some ideas as I thought of you. I know that my auntie was very cold body temp wise when she was going thru chemo. Perhaps if that happens with you you might invest in some lovely capes, or Foofoo's favorite - beaded cardi's.

Now these would be difficult to clip into hair if it has fallen out. However I wonder if a different type of adherement might work. Or perhaps they can be sewn right into the front of a cute hat or worked into the rosie scarf style.

Now these are more costume quality- but perhaps the Louise Brooks Bob might be a blast to rock for a while.

I don't have any advice to give except to stay positive and keep yourself up. My mom's best friend beat aggressive breast cancer about 10 years ago, and the best advice she ever gave me regarding her situation (which I've adopted for other areas in life) was "Get up in the morning as though nothing is the matter. Keep your routine. Don't stop wearing your makeup, or your best dress. Those are the things that make you feel good about yourself. When you feel good about yourself, you're capable of anything, including beating the damn cancer monster into submission."

i have 6 more sleeps till chemo begins,will have it for 4 months, i had the port put in so it will save my veins from being fried, this way it can go straight into the port which is connected to a main artery.

Blondie, I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. My mother was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer in 2006 and due to the aggressiveness of the cancer she had to have 4 cycles each of Chemotherapy & Radiation. It is truly heartbreaking to watch a loved one go through treatment but just keep your head up and rest as often as you can. This is truly your time to be selfish, let people cater to you! My mother has been cancer free for 3 years and you will come out of this victorious too!!

When my mother received the call that she had breast cancer she asked me if I would scrapbook her journey. She said that people only want to remember the happy times in life but it is more important to remember the struggles because that is what builds character and personal growth. It was the hardest thing I have ever done, it took me a good 6 months to start and I cried while cutting out the pictures and putting the layouts together. When I finally did finish it, I asked my sister to write a little note and I wrote a poem and I included that in the scrapbook as well. We took my father on a wine tour and we packed a picnic lunch, it was in between Mothers Day & Fathers Day and I thought it would be the perfect time to present it to her. She started crying the moment she unwrapped it and saw the album. She takes it with her to every Breast Cancer Alliance Dinner and she always has to pass tissues around too...

I wanted to share it with you too so that you know it is okay to document the struggles in life!

Thanks Cassy, Sounds like a great idea & kind of similar to what i am doing.
I am writting a book for my two children, it's kind of like a life manual , it is a "just in case" book, it will give me something to do during chemo, plus it will give me a chance to write about my life, my views, family information , funny stories, sad stories, just a bit of everything i guess for them to read when i am not here to answer their questions, ( but this will not happen until i am at least 90 ) and even if they never have to refer to it , it will be something good to be able to pass down !!!
My motto is "plan for the worst, hope for the best", I got this from Jeannette Walls new book "Half Broke Horses" her grandmother used to tell her Mum this.
It is only by having breast cancer that i see how wise this really is.

That is a beautiful idea!! You will have plenty of time, if I remember correctly my mom's treatments were 3 hours long! She taught the hospital chaplain & volunteer how to play Five Crowns & Rook (card games) lol

That is a wonderful motto! My mom's was and still is "Life is to short to worry about trivial things" When we are standing in line at a grocery store or stuck in traffic and she sees someone behind her get all bent-out-of-shape she just smiles and quietly says "Life is to short to get all worked up over nothing" then she adds - It took Breast Cancer to make me see that. She is the best and you know Blondie your children will say the same about you too!

Look what I just found in my Pattern Stash!!

When Joann Fabrics was having a sale last month on Simplicity patterns, $1 each, I picked up a few and this one happened to be one of them. I bought this one to make the ivory flapper cloche (view A) but I didn't know if View C was the look you were wanted to go with?

Also, I just got this crochet pattern. I have had my eyes set on this one for quite some time. A jewel or even a feather would look fab!

I'm a massive fan of the traditional Nigerian Gele headscarves.... they look AMAZING. It would certainly take guts to wear them, because they are so big, but, wow, they are certainly glamorous.

Hi Blondie!

First off, sending you healing and positive wishes while you go through your treatment...my mom has gone through it twice (got the double mastectomy a few years ago), and is going strong like you wouldnt believe!

Also- all of it can open up a lot of other fashion choices! I second the wig suggestion, and all of the different wig looks that can be tried...also, post-mastectomy, you'll be able to try different fashions that perhaps you wouldn't have worn before? My mom got small implants in after the surgery, and now she can wear those daring low-cut silhouettes without worry! After the initial adjustment period, she's playing with many different kinds of things she couldnt wear before- and that can be exciting!

Am struggling with side effects from my first round of chemo but I will get through this,
I have 7 more rounds to go, i have it every three weeks, so will have time to get back on top of things before it rolls around again.
Going to look at wigs next week !

I was thinking, if wigs get itchy and hot....and that's why I personally hate them...scalp irritation you could get those clip in hair extensions and sew them around the inside of a hat. Then it looks like hair coming out from under the hat, but it's not really a wig
