... couldn't pass these two by... long ovals, no less; 2 straw Stetsons hats Medalist and Premier Milans

...anyone venture an educated guess as to age? The copy says 60's & 70's, but given the label on the one w/ the white puggere & damaged sweat, I'd guess 60's at the latest...(?)
The grey one has a distinctive weave that I am not sure that I have seen before, has anybody else?
All in all...pretty sweet, now if I could just find a pug like the fella in my avatar! :D

How wide are the brims and how tall are the crowns?
Nice hats. Too bad they weren't just a bit bigger. ;) :D

dunno... just won 'em. Tho' the only Milan I have is an ancient Lee brand w/ a telescope crown & a 2 1/4" brim. These both look wider. I am guessing 2 1/2"-2 3/4" brims.

SHUFFLED off to...
Good for you! I was considering bidding on them simply for the bands. But I thought someone would probably get more joy from wearing them, not scavanging them.

I was surprised

... that I was alone on this one. There is alot more straw hat weather to come down here, I am afraid, so they will see some use, and soon!

Brims that wide and in a style like that would probably be from before 1960 for sure. I am having a hard time getting a perspective on the brim widths from those pictures but they do have an older than 1960 look to them. I have an old skimmer from the 1930s that is also a Medalist so the name had been around for a while. The shape of the topper label is the same as yours but the writing on it is different.

The second one is hard to judge from the pictures because you don't see any branding identification clearly:

Thsi one does say Premier and I have not seen many of this model. I like it though and the sweatband would suggest it is from the 40s-50s. This is probably older than the first one.

Thank you Mr. Powers

for the info. I had been eager to get a wider (than 2") brimmed milan.
I was hoping to put a bit tighter pinch in the front of the Premier, tho' I confess I have little experience with such things. I have an old beater Lee Milan braid that I will have to experiment on.
The odd kinda "stepladder" pattern in the silver Medalist is, well, odd and makes me wonder if it is a panama instead a milan ?
I am going to put the pugs through a woolite baptism & I'll hope for the best, eh?

Regards,

Rick
