Hats will roll.
:kick:
That was me trying to cut down a brim the first time I tried to make a cowboy hat into a fedora. I have since given up that endeavor.

Any ideas on the date of this add?For related musings, you may want to check out this thread (which includes that same passage from "The Cowboy at Work"). Unfortunately, I'm not sure how much that thread actually "clears" things up.
Here's a related ad that also offers a glimpse of quality grades in Stetson western lids, based on price:
To address something Lefty said above -- I have always wondered what it was about the Stetson 100 that actually commanded double the price of a 7X Clear Beaver. I have a Stetson 100 -- it is a beautiful lid. But twice the price ? Hmmmmm....
Cheers,

1951 is what I have heard I was looking for evidence of an earlier one hundredNo way.....try 1951
Western Ranch Outfitters still offered a "100" in their 77-78 catalogue for $110.00...also a 7X for $65.00 for a "Rancher" style western. The Open Road was still at $100.00 for the 100 and $55.00 for a 7X and $30.00 for a 3X. The 1981 catalogue shows three Open Road qualities a 10X for $125.00, a 6X for $75.00 and a 4X for $45.00. The Rancher model was offered as a 10X for $135.00, 7X for $90.00 and a 4X for $60.00.Vic, did the 100's end mid 60's?
