Hi Everyone
Some of you know that I lost my step mother/ great friend to cancer last week after what seems like too short a battle and it has affected Janene and I greatly. After her death we started talking about what WE wanted for the future and discovered that we both were tired of the 24/7 routine we have developed over the years involving the 3 businesses we own and operate. In thinking back, we have not taken a vacation in over 16 years. Our friends and doctors have been telling us to "slow down" for too long, so we have decided to take their advise.
We are in the process of selling ALL of our business interests with the exception ( here it is guys) of my Hat shop. Since I am so in love with the process and results I can't imagine NOT doing it till later years ( after all we are only 55). We have decided to sell everything and move to some acreage in Oregon where we can "slow down". I'll have my hat shop built on the property with all the bells & whistles I can afford while Janene can have her new home and the horses she has always wanted.
Janene is still in the air about the womens vintage clothing and we will probably continue with victorian online only, but that part ( amongst others) is still very much in the air.
So, not to worry hat wearers, I'll be here for a lot longer, but with a different address.
Wish us luck!!!

I'll Lock Up
I'm probably not one of the guys, and definitely not one of the guys who had heard, so now that I've read this message, let me just say that I'm sorry to hear of your recent loss Art, my condolences to you both.
Although I personally have had no dealings with you through your business, I have visited and browsed your web site and thought it was great- glad to hear you're keeping the hat side of the business going.
They say a change is as good as a rest- and sometimes it takes an event, any event, no matter how sad or happy to trigger change. I hope this change gives you and your good lady the opportunity for a new, different and exciting life and for the rest and relaxation you deserve.

Kind regards,
BT.

Oh Great!

Now I have to fly FIVE hours to do our weekly lunch date :hamburger !!

Since I have been one of your friends that has talkled often to you about "slowing down", I am happy you guys have made the first step towards your dream.

Remember, any hat stuff that won't fit on the moving van, just leave on the sidewalk for me! Oh, does this mean I get to help you pack? Maybe we'll have a few months left for those lunches! :p

Art, the best of luck to you and Janene in all of your future endevors.
Oregon is a beautiful state an if there is one place you can take things slow, that is it.
(Just don't turn into one of those crotchity guys sitting on the porch with a shotgun taking pot shots at all those punkarse little kids...) ;)

Good Luck

Congrats on the new direction! I will miss Vintage Silhouettes, to be sure, but the quality of life is so much more important.

Hey Art,

My deepest sympathy for the loss of your stepmom. I knew she had been ill, but I didn't know she had passed away.

But, on a brighter note, good for you and Janene on ya'll's decision! I wish ya'll the best of luck.

It's great that you've made that decision together, Art. It must have been tough, but is absolutely the right one.

Selfishly, we're all thrilled that you're keeping the hat biz. I hope you know how important that is to so many people. I've thought about the day that I would meet a bunch of loungers at VS in CA, but now we'll just have to meet in Oregon! Sounds good to me!

Good luck with all the plans,

David

Art, looks like you are doing the right thing. I wish I could do the same - find some business to get me out of the rat race. It's killing me.

My prayers and sympathy are with you on your loss.
On a happier note, when you leave California...could you take all this #$%%^^&** rain with you?!!

Art,
I have been aware of the situation with your family and could see it coming. My condolences on your loss.
It does sound like a good decision on your part and a well deserved one at that. I am sad to see you leave the area though as I feel that I have made a new friend and a fine hattter so close to home. Those of us in the bay area will miss you but I am glad that you will continue working with your fine hats and be able to enjoy life and relax a bit more.
Best of luck in future projects and please let us know when these changes are happening.

HI Folks,
I have been away since posting this without internet connections and I am gratified by the responses now that I'm home again. WOW, even from Loungers I don't know.
Thank you all for your good wishes. Janene and I have been in Oregon the last 3 days looking at property and WHAT a job!! We DID find what we think might be perfect, but you know the real estate game, endless stress till closing. We found a parcel that would accomodate everything we want, room for cattle also, and dare I say...a runway for AndyKev.))) Yup Andy, just add those STOL tips & you'll have it made!! We didn't have the time this trip to walk it off, but it is 58 acres and we are preparing an offer as I write.

I'm home for a few days so I'll stay in touch

I hope it is like this:

Ok Art....I need a minimum of 2500 feet with no obstructions (over 50 feet) within a 3 degree slope to the approach end of either end of the runway at a distance of about 1500 feet. The runway gradient should be fairly level, but a 2 to 3 degree slope is acceptable. Oh, and about 50 feet wide, hard surfaced, and lighted would be nice. You do have a gravel free area to taxi to (can't nick the propeller!) and of course sturdy tie downs?

Something like this:
