It will probably be a haphazard teardrop or diamond, nothing too uniform.

It is an amazing felt that feels lighter than my ArtLite Playboy.
I literally put it on my head open crown & crease it there....

is your machine a Wilcox and Gibbs, I have two of those, same machine that Winchester has 100's of that they use to make the straw hat body.
They sound like bees back there when they are sewing so fast on those machines.
