Vintage Pinstripe/Chalkstripe SB/Notch, 3 button, 3 piece.

Well, I just got the above-mentioned suit for an obscenely cheap price.

It's a Swedish job- in a not-too-heavy, yet nicely bulky Worsted(Navy of course-), with a Pinstripe and Chalkstripe- three button, high gorge, fully lined. Six button waistcoat and nice pants too.

It's a vintage off-the-peg but the detailing and stripe matching is quite impressive.

AND- it's my size; 42- larger even- plenty of room in the pants' waist too.

Trouble is- I'm camera-less today... but happy.

Photos will follow in the near future.

Absolutely. Check eBay. Suits are going for $30-$40. And i'm talking some really fine 40s suits.

The really interesting stuff will still get big prices. But the everyday, run of the mill, if thou wilst, suits are going as cheap as i've seen them. Case in point: Someone's grandfather's wedding suit dated january, 1949. Well i got that for $25. Beautiful heavy taupe tweed 3 piece. And there were 4 bidders. It's crazy cheap right now. These suits would all have been going up to $200 not 2.5 months ago.

Run that by me again: Chalk stripe AND pinstripe?Sounds grand. Can't wait to see.

I have a couple of (recently purchased - remarkable how the bottom just fell out of the vintage menswear market in the US) multi-stripe numbers to show too.

Pinstripe and Chalkstripe is actually a pretty normal 'Pinstripe' design.

Single-breasted two piece suits with notch lapels (1940s) are going for peanuts. Four-button double breasted suits (1940s) can't be given away. Now, replace the notch lapel with a peak lapel, and the price shoots up. Make the four-button a six-button (with a high gorge), and you can expect to pay hundreds. Of course, size matters. The larger the suit, the more expensive it will be.

Hmm... then i guess I can always just get a suit and get a vest that looks similar later. But even finding a suit is difficult. I think I'll just bite the bullet and pay to get a new one made vintage style.

Heheheheheheh! Hahahahahahahahah! Hahahahhahaah! lol
You can't give away 40s double breasted suits? Yeah right! I can't find them in my size and when I do they are at least $200. If that is giving them away, I'll take them for free much better. If you want to give them away, I'll send you my address. :eusa_booh lol

I said that you can't give away 4-button DB suits from the '40s... the kind that fasten at the bottom buttonhole. (See photo below.) These are posted on eBay all the time, and they usually end without one bid. Honest Injun'. I think they don't sell because they look a bit like "uncool" double-breasted suits from the 1980s, albeit with wider lapels.

Part of the problem with the 4-2 button double-breasteds is that they are simply harder to wear well than 6-4 button variety. If you look like The Duke of Windsor or Kent then they look pretty good. I think they work best on someone who is tall with a short torso but longer legs. On a shorter or heavier man they would just add to the appearance of shortness and width.

Send them all to me. I'll take them. Free, I'll take them all. I might even pay for them in the right sizes if the price is right. I never see these in my size either by the way.
80s looking? No problem. So I look like the cast of Dynasty. Wheee! ;) :p
