Looking for leather coats inspirations

Hello,
I'm still looking for my first leather jacket - because I'm tall and slim, not many items fit me (usually they are too short and too wide).

Because of that, I have decided to give Leather Coats a try and found out, I actually like them even more than regular jackets.

I see they are not that popular around here, but do You folks have any pictures of Your items, You could show me so I can get some inspiration?

Thank You!

Not my photos, but for your build something belted might be perfect.

Like an Aero Barnstormer, or Belstaff Panther;

Iirc, @Canuck Panda has/had a number of these longer styles.

@barnabus oh wow, the first one is exactly what I was looking for. Seems like it would be perfect for upcoming winter.
Unfortunately Aero Leathers are too much for my wallet right now, so hopefully I'll be able to find something similar from other, more budget friendly makers. Thank You!

This is a difficult path. If you want a good leather jacket, it's worth looking for a used one. Study the measurements of the jacket that you have and be guided when buying.

I'm a fan of car coat styles, though they can be a little boxy or baggy. Also, a field jacket style is a little longer than flight/moto styles and cut more form-fitting.

@Peacoat while I enjoy browsing this threat and seeing all these beautiful photos, 99% of them are including "regular" jackets - in this post I'm specifically trying to find pictures of leather coats.

@Bennarion I've bought few cheap leather jackets now, to see what measurements would be perfect for me - unfortunately all of them were still too wide and I haven't found one that would fit me well. But I keep trying! :D

@ILB Frank I really like the look of them and have wishlisted few on ebay, but when I Google pictures of actual people wearing them, some look really good and some look dorky - I can only assume how I would look like in one and it's a risky business :D

Welcome to the club.
I feel the same way. Finding something on the second-hand market is almost impossible. One reason why I have to use Made to Measure or have clothes altered by my tailor. Long jackets don't usually suit me, but if it suits you, all the better. However, the problem remains that the sleeves are (usually) too short.
Good luck with your search.

For used leather car coats, search on Ebay for Schott, then find that item in Japan for less. You'll probably end up paying about 350 to 450 for one. There are a ton of these coats out there so you can pick and choose.

If you want brand new for around the same money or less you'd have to look at the import options, 5* or Aliexpress. If you can find a used Schott for the same price that would probably work better when you want to resell it.

Also I agree with MrProper that car coat don't necessary mean a good fit for tall and slim. You can check out his trucker jacket, I think it's a cooler look than the carcoats. A lot of trucker jackets are lengthened now, especially from the makers in the orient, they should fit better than the baggy carcoat imo. And trucker jackets are timeless. You can probably get a Vanson trucker jacket for not much more than imports, but you'd have to add length to it, their custom fee is relatively low and their trucker is underpriced. My vote goes to modern length truckers over car coats tbh.

I don't know how much internet searching you have done but another category (loosely defined) is ranch/barn coat. They seem to be in the same cut as a field jacket. Here are some finds I used to figure out the look I was going for:

"Barn" coat

I'm taller, not slim but I don't like jackets that hang at the belt line.

Just another something to think about.

@Canuck Panda yes, I do my searches on eBay daily and Japanese sellers seem to be offering the widest variety of jacket and coats in great condition. Another great thing is Japanese fellas are usually smaller than Americans, which means I'm more likely to get a fitting jacket from them, than from sellers from other parts of the world. I do have some items wishlisted and need to start asking about the measurements, because they often don't put them into description.

@ILB Frank I forgot to mention rancher coats - I love them! Schott has a whole Rancher line and I already wishlisted few items yesterday. I haven't seen used field jacket yet, but maybe I need to alter my searches

I can recommend Bates. Their jackets are longer, but cut slim. I love the bigger collars of their Leathermates style.
Many makers of the past had jackets/coats that were 27” down the back. I’ve had this length from Sears/Hercules and Field & Stream- they are a great middle ground. My only remaining leather coat is a 1930s German Kriegsmarine (sp?). Lost Worlds made a beautiful Peacoat for one of our members…..
I prefer the fieldjacket style in waxed cotton (Barbour/ Belstaff) rather than in leather.
Yes, ranchers are awesome too!

If you like military style field jackets (think M-65, but in leather), you can put Cooper, leather, field jacket into ebay search. Quite boxy, but you may get some ideas.

I would second the M-65 leather version. I've been looking at one myself for a long time (too bad high pricing).
I am comparing the M-65 to the British Belstaff/Barbour versions, and I prefer the way the M-65 is made, with the action back and internal waist cinch. The Belstaff/Barbour touring jacket versions would use an external belt which I find can be cumbersome in daily wear. The M-65 is really a great design imo, in both leather and textile.

And hidden hood or collar pocket I am not sure what is behind the zipper,

I have seen M-65 done in leather from niche brands to mass brands, it depends on the leather. But most hold true to the design which I think can check a lot more boxes than the normal carcoat we see around here, especially when functionality is concerned. Looks great too imo. Whenever I wear the my belted versions of the longer coats I always wished the belt is integrated somehow.

I went into a major rabbit hole with Cooper Field Jackets in goat leather (M-65) a few years ago. I must have gone through five of them until I realized they are not for me. Solid jackets, though, still for about $100-150 on ebay.
