Here are some photos that I found on the internet. So no real source or background, just some inspiration to wear your stuff:
Short jackets were worn due to the very high rise in old timey pants. I’ve never really understood the love for those short jackets until I bought a great pair of wool army serge pants from 1951. They have a very high waist and no jacket that I own is short enough to make it look era-consistent. I’m 6“ and would need a 21-22“ back length for that. Most of my jackets are 24-25.5“ though. So the pants always look a bit off worn with all my jackets.Great photos, thanks for posting. It never ceases to interest me how common short waist-length leather jackets were in the old days, and the dizzying variety of styles and configurations. Short leather jackets are still popular I guess, but only as motorcycle or flight jackets.
Yep, it's all about the trousers. Once you have a pair with the right rise then the jacket length just falls into place. In today's world it can look costumey to some but if you get it right it still looks smart. Always makes me laugh that most people back then dressed smarter to work some fairly manual jobs than most people do going out to dinner these days.
