Shall we have a thread to show off our gifts?
I received "Vintage Knits:30 knitting designs for men and women" and "Blueprints of Fashion: Home Sewing Patterns of the 1950s".

My vintage-y loot:

Mint green deadstock Wranglers (1950's)
Two very seasonal hats
A white cardigan with little flowers running next to the buttons
A purse-pack of powdered rice papers with Clara Bow on the package!

Good year. ;)

one of my presents from my boyfriend was a necklace and earring set from the late 50's. it's gold with olive green and little pearls. not really my era or color, but he tried so hard and i think i can make it work. he actually went to a vintage store looking for a present for me!! i have a pair of shoes that i was going to sell, but they match the color exactly, and if i pair those with a certain black dress it'll be cute. but i also told him that if i find a dress with olive green that would match it, he has to buy it for me ;)

So jealous! Every year I place a number of simple vintage items on my list and every year they get ignored. I don't know how to convince people that these are the things I really would love and the other stuff is just filler because I know they won't do it. I even placed internet links to items for my more savvy relatives. How do you convince people to venture into a vintage store?

yeah, I got nothing vintage. but then no one who buys me presents would know what they were looking at anyway. I did get another dog (early dec), a bathrobe and slippers, a printer/scanner and some random other things...ah well, there's always next year....I did however *give* vintage. My husband got a WWII Army uniform...to which he raised an eyebrow....but for his real vintage...I also gave him hankerchiefs....starting small....maybe I can get him into a fedora before the end of next year...lol

A wonderful friend gave me these knitting books and my hubby gave me an iron, I really needed a new one, among other things. An item for domestic chores how vintage is that :)

:D My stuff was mostly retro, I got some Besame Red Velvet lippy, and a bunch of books. One was Fashions of a decade 1940's by Patricia Baker, and the others were retro cookbooks by Linda Everett, Retro Diner, Retro Baking and Retro Breakfast. I love cookbooks. Oh and a new Benefit Bathina Shower Cap to replace my torn old one. And for my rockabilly side, I got two new wallets (one short, one long) and a new purse to match the long wallet.

It's hard for the fam to get me anything vintage these days.. everything I want is on ebay, and links to sites usually produce presents that are quite expensive. When the little vintage shop was running by my parents house, I used to get vintage gifts all the time. It was the convenience, I'm sure. Those were the days!! :D

Those are some very nice knitting books Goldwyn Girl! And what kind of iron did you get, if I may ask? My husband is the "iron-er" of the house and is always on the look out for a new good iron!

My grandmother gave me a bunch of hats (see the hat thread for piccies) and this:

it was embroidered and sewn by a good friend of hers before my grandmother got married (before the war?). my poor grandmother shoved it into my hands and said "quick! take it before i change my mind!"
it's never been used and is in perfect condition. i can't tell you how touched i was to receive it!!!

I gave my husband a linked pin set, depicting an American flag and a bomber(?). It needs to go to a jeweler, though, as the pinback is smashed closed. (Wish the seller had disclosed that -- probably would have still bought it, but I could have had it fixed prior to discovering while wrapping it on Christmas Eve!)

He gave me a wonderful, wonderful vintage watch. It's probably 30's, and it's a great little everyday watch. I wear his grandmother's watch for special events, it's got the fancy curved crystal and diamonds, but I wanted an everyday watch that I don't have to worry about damaging. So far it keeps good time, although it runs down quickly because I'm afraid of overwinding it. Looks much nicer with my wedding bands than my old watch!

Also, I got him passes for some LA Conservancy tours, and he got me an iron! Most popular gift of the season! (Mine's a Rowenta -- not vintage, but it's a huge upgrade for my sewing room!)

Thank you Red, it's the Black and Decker Classic. Best thing is it looks exactly like one in a 1950's Sears catalogue I have.

Nice!!! That's always a plus!

Snookie... that watch is quite the gem!! I'm sitting in awe of it.. you are a lucky lady to have a husband to find you something so lovely!! And his pin is so darn cute!! I love neat little finds like that! And as for the Rowenta...very nice...I hear they are very good irons! I'm making mental notes ...;)

Zaika, you really made out on the vintage items this Christmas!! The glasses, the beautiful hats and the lovely little runner all from your grandmother, whcih of course makes them all that much better. And can I say I too am LOVING your hair!

I love both your items Snookie, but that linked pin set is so sweet! Really evocotive of the WWII era, I just love it. I especially like the different size rhinestones that make up the stars in the flag.
