The Owl Drug Co. sign.
ODC.jpg

Richard Elgin Miller, a Canadian expatriate who had moved to California in 1878, opened the first Owl Drug Store in San Francisco in 1892. One of his objectives was to establish a cut price chain of drug stores and within a few years he had established a number of similar stores in Los Angeles and Oakland and was well on his way to creating a West Coast drug business of some note. He was doing it in style, too, because of the branding he chose. Owl Drug Stores were immediately recognizable not just because of the distinctive Owl logo but also because all the stores were painted a vivid orange.

She reminds me of Lois Lane from Superman serials.
I like the floral print of the dresses from that period.

I went with my wife today to visit her arthritis doctor. This is the Dairy Queen in Iowa City, Iowa. Unchanged since it was built in the early '50's. The sign is fully functional. The sorry looking pics are cell phone shots of photos from the past inside the front window. The sun was very bright and created the glare.

Great pics nonetheless! Thanks for sharing. Too bad you didn't stop in for an ice cream. Hope your wife's arthritis isn't to bad. I've heard thats not fun.

We did stop for an ice cream. I had a hot fudge and caramel sundae which I consumed with the gusto of a hound dog. :D
My wife, being a little more restrained, had a kid size berry something Blizzard.
The arthritis is currently staying in remission. Her Austrian doctor is her hero.
