Were Francophone Canadians an "aspirational" group in that era? I know Anglo-Canadians considered them very much an underclass. It's surprising to this American to see them being marketed to so early.
In fact yes we were considered as a underclass people that his not as smart as english Canadian. It was like that until the 1960's were french Canadian have decide that it was enought.Only english people most of th time had a prestige job like lawyer etc... And when they were speaking to us, it was alway in english, they don't bother about learning french. We had to respond in english. A lot of the advertising is made to women since they make grocery, buy more clothes etc...
