Not quite what you're looking for, but if the King Tut exhibit is heading your way, there are some pretty fab leather replicas of Ancient Egyptian Dog collars in the gift shop. Talk about Vintage ;)

I almost bought one, but I know my dog would tear it up.

Isn't this like the ones in the old time cartoons of the 30s and 40s, as well as that picture you linked to? lol

BTW, you don't need no steenkin' excuse to post his cute picture. :D

HAHAHA That would be great!
But alas, last I heard the Met wasn't able to afford the insurance for the Tut exhibit after 9/11! But that would be an awesome idea, especially considering how Egypt-crazy the world went in the 20's!

I tried to find it online, but I couldn't. It's currently at the Dallas Museum of Art which is about an hour away from me, and well worth the trip... maybe not a flight from NY, but a hour's drive anyway.

I can't even find a picture of the original. I'm beginning to thing I imagined it. But that is exactly what I thought of when you said Vintage dog collar-- particularly in the time after the tomb was unearthed, you'd think EVERYONE would have had an collar for their dog like King Tut's.

See, that's exactly what I need for Tilly. Big ol' studded collar. But no, she'd rather have her favorite pink sweater and pink leather leash. Downright embarassing.

I have a friend who makes traditional harnesses for bull terriers. He can make anything you want - I guess there must be some equivalent in the US.
My pal also supplies me with offcuts to repair the straps on flying jackets!

This is my baby, Dr. Gogol, and he is down in the dumps because his modern synthetic harness is chafing him :p

thanks ladies! :D
Dr. Gogol is very photogenic but in person he's even better, he is a huge personality and a quite the people-puppy, everyone in the neighborhood young and old here knows him by name (as if they've seen Mad Love to know where it comes from..!?) I get nowhere near as much attention, thems the brakes :p

Err..I'm not sure. He is in the Staffordshire Bull Terrier club (in Staffordshire, of course) and I'm not sure he's ever been asked to do a harness for a Jack Russell. The straps from which he makes up the harnesses are about an inch and a half wide and a quarter of an inch thick - would that be a bit heavy for a Jack Russell? :)
