From Shorpy site....
You decide if it's right or wrong.

"October 29, 1954. "Big dining room, Patricia Murphy's Candlelight Restaurant, Central Avenue, Yonkers, Westchester County, N.Y." Said to be the largest restaurant in the East. 4x5 negative by Gottscho-Schleisner.”

Btw: you misspelled batchlor, it should be bachelor. :D
Sounds right.

The firm always claimed that their Westchester location was the largest. I was never there, but the Better Half frequented the place. Grew up in Ardsley and New Rochelle.

Yes, I agree
Of course, I think that any tube larger than twelve inches in diameter is in poor taste.

I have a GE802, like this set, in the restoration queue.

It will replace the 1951 Sparton which sits with its crass 16 inch screen hidden behind its doors in the corner of the library.

Of course, were I ever lucky enough to find an RCA Victor Berkshiire Breakfront combination, with its cabinet by Baker, I'd not worry about its crass twenty inch projection screen

Koussevitzky was pretentious. He should have taken a tip from Toscanini, who gratefully accepted the gift of a TRK-12 from Mr. Sarnoff because it would allow him to watch pro wrestling.

Yes, but the big projection screen was on the Berkshire was better for Roller Derby, besides which the tears on the faces of Queen for a Day contestants came across much more clearly.

Here a a perfect example of a "time capsule home", a mid-century modern rambled with an exceptionally well designed interior, using the "traditional" styles (in this case French Provincial, "Medeterranian", and Colonial) which in reality were so much more popular in their day than strict modernism.

Note the canary yellow General Electric modular kitchen. Note, too, the polished, light colored terrazo floors throughout, which are covered with appropriate rugs. The big Karastan in the living room is particularly attractive, I think.

This exceptional home stood in Scarsdale, NY, where it was offered for sale as pictured here in 2012. It sold quickly, and was just as quickly demolished and replaced with a nondescript McMansion the most distinctive feature of which was its slate blue vinyl siding and black vinyl shitters.

The above is a fine example of the way that real interior designers of the period decorated homes of this type.

This is what took the place of that lovely, comfortable modernist house:

The architect offers these plans for sale. For a modest price you, too can build a copy.

The house is perfectly inoffensive, I suppose.

Heartbreaking. While my personal taste doesn't lean to mid-century modern, it is crushing to see such a wonderful and irreplaceable example of the period knocked down for another whatever McMansion. I've watched that exact process beat up my girlfriend's parents' neighborhood for twenty years now.

But the real reason I posted is that growing up, my Dad had a friend who had that kitchen - a really close version - but in a pale-green-leaning-toward-blue color (I last saw it in the '70s). Even seeing it in yellow brought me right back to being a kid standing in that kitchen.
