With a month to go I was just wondering if you have thought of a New Years Resolution which is vintage inspired for yourself.
Something you would like to do or think you should do?

Ok, I like this thread!

I have more than one:

Stop biting nails (I am told clove oil on them is a good measure!)
Wear more skirts - which involves buying some first :)
Cook more - break the convienience food habit and eat more staples!

Alas - we have no garden!

And the only thing I ever grew was some potted grass for the cats - and it err.. didn't work out as best as I thought!

I did buy a slow cooker 'crock pot' last month and did a casserole type meal. Threw everything in there included spuds and carrotts - tasted wonderful!

On the subject of 1940s food, I read that horse was quite a popular meat of the time. As the picture in my book states:

'Horse Flesh - No Coupons Required' :(

I stopped my daughter biting her nails by telling her her hands will look ugly when she gets older! Worked and she no longer bites them and will give herself a manicure and shape them vintage style like me - shes only 10 lol

My resolution isnt really vintage but its to lose this last 3 stone (thats 42 lbs) to go with the other 3 stone I have lost over this last year!

Then maybe I can actually fit into something vintage!

I make a point of not making resolutions on the grounds that I don't cope with failure easily! Besides, to make resolutions might suggest that there was something about myself or my life that I was dissatisfied with...I'm hardly going to admit that to anyone! If there is something I feel needs changing, I'll change it - quietly. ;)

But if I were to resolve to do anything, I suppose it might be to have my lingerie line in full swing by the summer.

Do you have the plug in slow cooker version or a "proper" crock pot?

My dad got me into the whole slow cooker - movement! LOL He has been through three in the past two years, he uses them so often! lol

I am just after a good receipe book now!

Go through my entire wardrobe and get rid of the things that don't fit me (I lost a lot of weight, went from a 10/12 to a 4 but for some reason still kept all my larger sizes) and get rid of most of the modern stuff
Get my garden going. I finally have the land to do a proper garden with corn, beans, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, watermelon, pumkins, cantaloupe, strawberries, and all the other yummy stuff that I never had the room to grow. It's going to royally upset the sales associate at the model home (my development is still in building phase) because she doens't like gardens but she can stuff it. She told a guy he couldn't grow corn because this wasn't a farm and she didn't like the way it looked (The builder is still in charge of the Home Owners Assoc.). I told her I was going to plant a fence of corn around my property line. She failed to see the humor in it. I hate being told I can't do something for stupid reasons.
Lose another 10 lbs and tone and maintain.
Have a baby.
Stay sane while my husband is in Iraq.

Those are my goals. Not to vintagy but I suppose they aren't far off either.

Me too! I have several on my amazon wishlist, dunno if they are any good...they are veggie ones as well, because I am.

Mine is a plug in, it's a Rival one. Do you put "proper" ones in the oven? I think that would be an expensive (electricity-wise) way of doing it.

Yes either in the oven or on the hob - I don't know actually, ignore me as I could be thinking of something else! LOL

Oh Nashoba - have a baby, how lovely!

Well you might want to do that before you lose any more weight! lol

lol. I know. We've been trying for 3 1/2 years and finally went the infertility route. I'll find out tomorrow if I'm pregnant this round. If I'm not we probably won't get another chance to try, he deploys to Iraq next month and he's out of state doing final work up and trainings and I won't see him till christmas which is way past the "window". So fingers crossed. Or my resolution won't even be able to be attempted for another 8 months!

The funny thing is I joined a gym yesterday and am supposed to start with my personal trainer on monday lol. I'm still going to stick with it even if I am prego. My mom gained ridiculous amounts of weight when she was pregnant with me and she's convinced she's still carrying some of that weight 27 years later! I figure if I stay fit during it will be easier to lose the baby weight after!

I w?°nt to go one getting rid of my "modern stuff" and I really want to sew alot. I¬¥ll be getting a sewing-maschine this X-MAs and I¬¥m eyeing a dress form that I might buy in January... I already start to cut fabrics and patterns so I can just go ahead and start once I have brought my sewing-maschine home!!! My plan is to sew at least 2 times a week!

- learn to sew properly (my mom is getting me a sewing maching for my birthday! yay!!)

- Actually finish the projects I start (I don't think I'll be very successful in this resolution!)

- eat healthier (not really to loose weight, althoug that would be swell; I'm just tired of feeling yucky all the time!)

- try to exercise a little more (read: start exercising)

- spend more time with friends and family, and less time in the office!

Hmm, this is a tough one!
I definitely want to cook/bake a lot more. I bought all of this fancy stuff for my kitchen, and rarely use it.
The second, I'm gonna stop buying things that will sit in the box and maybe be used once. Really, I didn't need a cotton candy machine, a soft serve ice cream maker, and a special hot dog griller. But the panini maker, that stays.
I'm gonna really get my ebay store up and running, so maybe I can make some money off of it.
I'm gonna see my family more.
And last but certainly not least, I, Daisy Buchanan, will clean out my entire bedroom! It might involve the hiring of a dump truck. But, I will no longer be a pack rat. I will give to good will all of the clothes I haven't worn in ages. I could be persuaded to make my bed in the morning!

Actually, add sewing and general homemaking on my list of resolutions. I do sew and I do clean, but I don't sew enough and I don't take as much pride in my home as I should - I do need to finish painting and stuff first though. And I need to start getting on with the garden that I'd like too!

Where has this year gone!

Each year I get more determined to keep mine:-
a) try to be tidier person and put thinks away after been used,
b) More importantly if I turn out a draw or cupboard to find a item then put the other stuff back first.

They from previous years they last only for two or three week at best then I drop back into the old habit but saying that I at least know where things are so why try again and fail.

This year I am forgetting all hat and getting myself a vintage vanity case, putting all those nice creams location in it and pamper myself a little before bed time etc.
Along with keeping a nice vintage eyebrow shape which I have not kept up since the summer and now from the new year smooth shaven legs 24/7.
That it do not want any more!
