I was just staring off into the distance (my living room wall) last night as I smoked my pipe, and a thought wandered into my head and settled:

What did people eat in the 1930s and 40s?

What was a typical meal like, main courses and desserts? What kind of appetizers did they prepare? Most importantly, was there good pizza?

Just curious.

We have the Household Searchlight Recipe Book, published by The Household Magazine in 1941. It is rather exhaustive, but leafing through, it appears the same as we eat today, they just worked harder for it. Some of the section headings include:

Appetizers
Canning Preserves
Fish and Wild Game
Sandwiches
Special Suggestions

I'd be pleased to post a recipe or two...What's anyone want to eat?
