This gathering of pre-war MG sports cars had a rather amusing caption with it. I just had to share.
MG Roadsters.jpg

Hello Darkness my old Friend
We’ve come to Hillside Road again
Because of MG’s softly creeping.
Dropped its oil while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in the rain
Still remains
Within the sounds of silence.
And in the naked light I saw
Heaps of members maybe more
Members talking without thinking
Members hearing without listening
And the Boss issuing orders that voices never share
And no one really cared
To disturb the sounds of silence.
I do apologise to Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel for the blatant plagiarism of their song, seemed relevant for the theme on the night.

There's quite a cult following of American cars in the UK, the favourite of which, seems to be the mid to late fifties fins and chrome. Whilst I can admire the restoration work that has gone into those cars, the aesthetics are, at best, garish.
However, Americans can make a woody, a real beautiful woody:

This car is not quite vintage, but it must rank as one of the world's best, given the price:

Golf mk4 gt tdi
Addlestone, Surrey £123,456,495.00
Car loan for you.
Finance this car

This has to be the ultimate MK4 TDI Golf in the world. Click on the Gumtree link and see for yourself.
A bargain at One hundred and twenty three million, four hundred and fifty six thousand, four hundred and ninety five pounds.
Such is inflation!

Alvis made a beautiful motor.

Amazingly, somebody bought the brand and machinery some ten years ago or so and now they sell a completely new ground-up reproduction of the 1938 model. Think of it like a really exclusive - and expensive - Morgan. £100,000 a pop. I'm sure they've changed some specs for modern emissions regs, fuel and saftey, but having had the opportunity to examine both side by side in great detail, I couldn't honestly say that (other than the 'new car' smell and feel) I could have told the difference. Given a sizeable lottery win that would buy that and a garage in central London, I'd be very tempted....

I think it's mostly connected to the rockabilly/rock and roll scene, there are some very hardcore lifestylers in that. I do love those old thirties through fifties US cars, though I've never driven one. I suspect I'd get on better with the British equivalents (can't knock a MkI or MkII Ford Zodiac...) - all the style but triple th mileage - and you don't need an HGV licence to drive 'em. Seriously, I love a 56 Caddy, but they're the size of a Routemaster! ;)

"So you'll sell that nasty old VW, then?"

"Yes, dear. I'll just put it on Gumtree. Of course, I'll keep driving it just until I find a buyer...."

Edward, a fellow that I know suggested that putting a ridiculous price on a car for sale, means it gets more notice than all other similar ones. Presumably they are expecting a call to be asked about the misprint.

One rarity of MG is that of Art Deco styled by Whittingham & Mitchel, here they take the MG PA, fix a hard top, art deco style, and call it the Airline Coupé:

There are quite a few vintage cars in my local woods though none are as nice as the cars above and they're all a tad beyond the restoration stage by now! I did find one of their old time plates the last time I passed by.

Oh dear, old cars awaiting the fairy of restoration to kiss new life into them, must help that fairy by falling asleep in a garage or barn, preferably a damp free draughty barn or garage. This photo has all the hallmarks of an MGB.

The oldest car I ever owned and drove was a '65 Mercury Park Lane, the enormous full-size 4-door with the power rear window that slanted inward. If you rolled down all the windows, including the triangular vent windows, and the rear one, and drove at 40+ mph on a drizzly day, you didn't even need the air-conditioning. (Well, not all the time.) White, maroon leather interior, good A/C, power steering, bias-ply tires, and a 390 c.i. "Thunderbird" V-8.

I drove it from 1981-1985; it was only 16-19 years old.

Doesn't look to bad actually. As long as everything is there go for it. At least the misses will know where you are spending your money and where you will be;)
