although being kids, we rarely came to a dead stop. You know, we took stop signs as more of a suggestion than a command.

The old California Coast Stop! I had a buddy back in the day, that got a ticket from a Deputy Sheriff because he did not put his foot down at the stop sign, even though his motorcycle was completely stopped.

That's a nice one. A '47 Olds is one of the cars "on my list" to own one of these days.

I'm not sure if it's a 98 or a 78. I can't find any identifying markings on it, but from research online, I'm leaning toward it being a 78, due to the more rounded back. I think the 98's had a more pronounced trunk. If I'm wrong, please let me know, I've been wrong before, and will be again lol

Olds models had a system. 60 series, 119" wheelbase, 66 "Special 6"with 6 cylinder engine, 68 "Special 8" with eight cylinder.

70 series, 125" wheelbase, 76 "Dynamic 6" or 78 "Dynamic 8"

Top of the line, 90 series, 127" wheelbase, 98 "Custom Cruiser 8"

60 series used basically the same body shell as a Chevrolet, 70 series was more like a Pontiac, the big 98 shared a body shell with Buick and the smaller Cadillacs.

Your car looks like a "Dynamic 8" or model 78. If it isn't marked on the car anyplace, you could check your wheelbase.

PS I knew some of this but had to look it up to find out all the details.

My sweetheart Tom and I are officially vintage car owners!! Found on the evilBay.
Here is a pic of the " Coop", after actor Gary Cooper 's nickname.
It is an all original, unrestored 1941 Pontiac Deluxe Torpedo Business Coupe.
239ci, 6 cylinder, "three on the tree" manual transmission, 3-passenger.

I looked it over while I was at the shop today and there was a tag on the firewall that said Olds 78, so I'm assuming it's the 'Dynamic 78' or whatever they called it in '47.

I'll have to measure the wheelbase one day to be sure.

The number on the plate in the engine compartment on my "Coop" shows a different color than what is the now several years old repaint on this car. When we are at the stage of repainting, I'd like to have it done with the original color once again, which was "Marlboro Blue", a very nice dark blue shade.

Triple-A has saved my neck on many occasions. Been a member for almost thirty years.

The AMA, American Motorcycle Association has free road side association. They will even send out a flatbed for your motorcycle, and tow any of your four tire vehicles. I had to use it once, for a motorcycle, very easy, and nice not to have to leave an expensive motorcycle by the side of the road. This is also why I finally broke down and got a cell phone!

You might want to think twice about repainting. A quality job can cost $5000. I would suggest you get some good car wax and preserve what you have as long as possible.
