Vintage Cal - It's changing my outlook on things

Thanks JMax and Leigh H for the feedback about the collars not being swappable. It puts me back on the fence about whether to order a collar, but it is good to know. The collar that came with my Cal only lines up in a couple of snap positions, so I think it was a non-Cal collar that someone adapted to use on the jacket.

I’ve never seen cal leather pants before?. These are from 50’s, they have the same white label and red lettering as one of my jackets.

I tried these on when the guys came down from Sacramento to Oakland for a vintage clothing event. They are pretty cool pants. No lining. They were also a generous fit while I was wearing shorts (I have a 34” waist). They would likely make a good pair of over pants for riding. The leather was aged, but still in pretty good shape.

That jacket looks pretty awesome and I agree with you about the amount of jackets owned. I love leather jackets, but I try to keep my collection to a fairly low number just so I can actually wear them all as much as possible.

NAILED IT! SUPERB!

Thanks man! Love the 2 new vintage jackets you just scored! Is the urad cream good for both chrome and veg tanned stuff? Love how the shine it makes after a treatment

Mulholland Foolholland lol. This is the apex in the style.
It is the king of the hill no doubt and I'm still in awe of it all and still hoping/waiting for a brown Cal to come my way lol although I'm also in the foolholland fanboy club

So, I just bought some Urad and also some Tenderly. Do they ultimately darken the leather? Or will beautiful patina remain? Not the wear marks and scratches, but the beautiful burnished kind.

I’ll let you know...arrives Sunday...I’m interested to see if it works on old deerskin. Chamberlains and Pecard's got it all gummed up and hard.
Pecards I'm starting to view more as a preservative than a softener. Been using Skidmores lately for the deep, softening conditioning and I like it. Usually will darken for the first day or two and then come back to where it was color wise slowly over a week or so. But some of those Urad photos Ton has posted are quite impressive.

@ton312, is Urad what Dena recommends? I feel like I remember the name from when I talked to her about leather products awhile back.

I wore a pair of Cal leather pants for years. They were lined to mid-thigh. I changed over to Vanson for the knee pads. Like the protection more than looking cool

Wow, Terry. Never saw one with the los angeles label. As the story goes, one of the owners was receiving frequent medical treatment in LA area so they set up a "store" away from the Ventura factory. Basically a house by an alley. People would knock on a door and out would come out a jacket for cash. That's some history right there.
