i know somr of you on here suits from my baby jo...
how did your experience go?

I mean, I ordered my suit over a week or so ago... and STILL no suit.
I emailed her the other day and she said it would ship Monday (yesterday) and I would get an email with tracking.. STILL no email.. Plus Monday, was a week since i paid for the bloody thing. who waits a week to ship when their website says 2 days?

argh.. and to top it off i paid 10 dollar shipping for a flippin swimsuit??!?!?!

i just want my suit?

I got a suit from mybabyjo last year and the same thing happened to me. I ordered it, then after a week went by I was told it was out of stock but they would be getting more within the week. Fortunately, they did and I didn't have any other hassles with it.

For some reason, stuff I order from there always seems to go through some sort of shipping issue even though we're both in SoCal and I assume it would arrive quickly.

The last thing I bought from them was a pair of stockings. They took over a week to arrive and for some reason the shipment had to be signed for :eusa_doh: And of course I couldn't sign for it as I was at work all day.

But other than that, every product I've ordered from them has been great quality-wise and the sizes have always been true (at least for me)

So many darling suits! I've had a Bondi Bathers Betty swimsuit (http://bondibathers.stores.yahoo.net/betty.html) for several seasons now and no matter how loose or tight I tie it, the knot bedevils my neck after a while. The Esther Williams suit seems to have a similar tie. How is the comfort of the suit? I would really like to try it out because otherwise, I'll go back to saving up for the Norma Kamali Bill one-piece (http://www.normakamalicollection.com/shop2/product.php?productid=1509&cat=60&page=1) which I adore.

Those Bondi & Norma suits are really nice looking. I love my E.W. suits and find them to be very comfortable. I've not had any problem at all with the neck knot.

Thanks for the response, Decobelle & exquisitebones! It could just be my neck/shoulders but I love that style so I'll definitely give the Esther Williams suit a try.

My Dad, his sister Anne, and brother Lou at Taunton Lakes, N.J. c.1932 (I can't read the date on the license tag!)

Dig Lou's tank top and bell bottoms!.... a classic look even then!

Has anyone tried wearing a Revamp suit in water? JBD mentioned last year she hadn't, but perhaps she has by now? I really want a two-piece from there as I adore the Esther Williams one pieces, but for some reason am not too keen on the two pieces. But I am dubious about wearing cotton broadcloth or rayon-y fabrics in water, both for the heaviness, clinginess and chlorine damagability on such an expensive bathing suit!!

I am also a bit worried about ordering an EW one piece as I have a long torso, so I usually have trouble finding stuff that fits. :(

Great photo, Dixon Cannon. Thanks for posting it. I'll get my magnifying glass out for the plate.

I am a (relatively poor) student and am not able to order any suits online. Seeing as my boyfriend is a fish and has already beat me to the punch by finding some very James Bond-esque shorts for himself, I have to one-up him and get a stunner of a suit. ;)

Are there any good/reasonable vintage-looking suits out there in STORES that you know of?

I'm also a fan of trying on those beastly things so my body and the suit agree (dreaaaaaaaaaaad...:p) before I buy.

Many thanks!

i've seen a few suits that have some vintage-inspired details, but not very vintage-looking as a while.

i did find a suit from the 70s or 80s in a thrift store a few weeks ago that is very similar in cut and detail to my 50s ones. the differences are the fabric, it's a bit more shimmery, and obviously much thinner and stretchier, and the halter strap is thinner. for $2.99 it'll work just fine for actual swimming! my friend has a similar suit that was her mom's. keep an eye out, and maybe you'll find an 80's 50's-inspired suit too!

Adding underwire?

Hey guys! I just got a swim suit from My Baby Jo but I'm wishing it had an underwire. Is it crazy to imagine that a wire (removed from another bra of the same size) can be added to a "pre-existing" swimsuit top? I'm just paranoid I'm gonna come out the bottom--plus additional support is never a bad thing.

I noticed the EW swimsuits look very similar, do they have an underwire?

By the way, this is what i got:

Black w/white polka dots.

In the two-piece style:

I have an EW suit and it has a padded cup, but not an underwire.

By the way... MissBombshell has custom 50s styled bikinis in her Ebay store!!! Very cute and worth checking out.

Thanks for the info and the heads-up on that seller, she has great stuff! (as an aside, I can't wait for it to get warm enough to wear those cute halter tops and what-not).

You know what, it looks to me that the suits My Baby Jo's sells are actually EW's! From your description, the construction sounds the same.

So...anybody have insite as to whether adding an underwire would be do-able for this top?

I'd have to get mine out to look, but I would think you could handsew a strip of fabric at the base of the pad to act as a channel and work an underwire into it. After the wire is in just stitch it shut. Check out the notions portion of your sew shop and you should be able to find underwires.

I hope nobody minds me bringing this back up to the top. I wanted to post here quickly before I headed off to work. :(

Anyhow, this is a VBO purchase and I got it super cheap. I just recieved it and tried it on and it is the best fitting bathing suit I have ever owned. I don't think I will ever wear another modern bathing suit again. I this this may be my new obsession! lol
