Yes ,exactly my sentiments. This one was marked inside on the manufacture tag a 7 3/8 but they must have miss marked or just used
that one for other info re color. at any rate it is a 7 all day.

Hi Alan, I have several friends here in the hat business though with whom I share and trust their accumulated knowledge with
regarding any questions about hats, kind of just like the Fedora lounge.
Identifiers for vintage Borsalinos varies as I am sure you already know, but the things I look at are the sweatband detailing ,this one is sewn directly to the felt, as well as color and width of the sweatband,as well as the cav edge on the brim, and the ribbon.
This particular ribbon is a little wider than most and which makes me think that the hat could be older yet. My very first Borsalino was a vintage 1940s and it was bought originally in Venice Italy , so that one sort of became my mark of excellence since I had first hand
knowledge with what a real 1940s borsalino looked like. ***On a side note I Have just purchased my first Marque Grand luxe and cant wait to get it sometime next wk.!!!

First off, it looks like a great hat and I hope it finds a happy home with someone here on the Lounge.

On the dating, I like Aureliano's guess of 1950's with a hedge to possibly late 1940's. So many of the Borsalino details come and go and then come back again. This liner imprint was used into the 1970's and perhaps beyond. The unreeded sweat (with and without corrugated insert at the front) appears on 1930's hats and in 1960's hats. The sweat on my contemporary Borsalino Como is sewn directly to the felt without a reed. Without being able to see the bow, the styling and use of a mode/guild/cav brim edge seems reminiscent of the Knox and Dobbs twenty dollar hats from the early 1950's.

My guess +25 cents should get you on the Staten Island Ferry. But at least it will bump the ad up a bit on the pecking order! 8^)

cheers,
Alan

ps - enjoy that Marque Grand Luxe... these are wonderful elegant hats.

Is there Any one out there with a collection of vintage Borsalinos that range from the 20s through the 50s
That can share pics to help identify the vintage of this hat? Or at least clarify details particular to each decade? I would love to see them if you do.
Thanks
Bond

I've owned many Borsalinos from the 20's-50's. Those on here who've been around for a few years can vouch for me. Though I've gotten rid of most of the photos since selling off my collection I can tell you that this particular Borso has all of the traits that scream late 40's-early 50's. Good luck with your sale.

I am uploading detail pics of liner tags from the Mocha Brown Size 7 Borsalino ,so for what its worth here they are. I read in other posts
about dating Borsos that it might be possible to tell the date of the hat from the numbers. Good luck if anyone is able to make sense of
it.
