Vindication for the lady in an apron hand-washing dishes

I think I saw a study a few years back that searched for the items in the house that were the most bacteria-laden. Result? Ice cube trays. They seem to rarely get washed. The worst all 'round? Ice on airplanes. Germy as all get out.

I still prefer to wash dishes in the sink, in small batches as they are dirtied. It feeds a phobia of mine: Never leave the house with a dirty dish in the sink or the bed unmade. What if I die while I'm out? What would people think when they got into the house?

I'm so old-fashioned that when I read the headline Dishwashers harbour killer bugs I thought they tested the hands of those who wash by hand and that perhaps I, a dishwasher, was a carrier of murderous insects as a result!

Sometimes I will leave the house with dishes unwashed. I put them in the sink with the soapy water and say they are 'soaking'.
I usually make the bed just before bedtime.

They'd think: "He wasn't so clean. You couldn't, after all, eat off of his kitchen floors evidenced by the fact that he had to use dishes."

No dishwasher.
It was a dishwasher or dryer (the room I had in the kitchen at the time), I chose a dryer since I lived alone.
Even being married now, my wife has learned to wash by hand, since her parents have to do it too (no dishwasher).
I find we're more thorough washing them by hand....
Lizzie, and easy way to keep up on the dishes is to use Chinet dinner plates.
They are paper, biodegradeable, and I get 165 of them at Costco (Sams probably has them too) for about $10 I think.
I have an entire set of Mikasa dishes we got for our wedding, that have never been eaten off of....since we don't want to wash extra dishes. :)
