Vent holes: do they work?

Ventilated felt hats were quite common in the heyday of hats. Akubra has several models with vent holes. You'll also want to take the liner out.

Ok, I tried the drill method...not good. The drill bit tore into the hat felt and didn't make a clean hole.

Soooooooo....next was the leather punch.
MUCH better results!
Photos below.
I used a template for the crown top. The sides were done freehand.

Overall...a lot less sweat. I can feel a little air passing through when driving with the windows down. Walking, it's just allowing the heat from my head to escape the hat...no breeze felt.

Overall...a success!
