I thought about going to Stronghold in Venice but i priced it out and on paper at least, seems like it'll be a couple hundred bucks more. $1250 + LA sales tax so lets say almost $1400.

On the LL website, I'm getting about $1100 since there's no vat. I'm figuring $100 shipping (prob high) and ???? customs or other taxes. Maybe I'm missing something.

Mine was $1100 all up, including shipping.

The Lewis website price includes shipping. That's nice compared to Aero and others.

You’re missing out on the attitude. :p
I would deal directly with London! They have answered my questions and been very helpful when I emailed them.
The thing I did get was to try on jackets...and that’s extremely valuable...I found I prefer 1 size up in the Dominator.

Rip is a cool dude. I liked the how to measure videos he did.

@MrProper The British Racing Green is dark green. I think you have all the other comparison leather in the photo, the natural had two summers of tanning so it would look a bit more orange than yours.
Size 46 still sounds huge though. But Rip is pretty good at figuring out the sizing with you once you gave him your measurements.

Ok, ok... :D
After all the cool pictures, I'm actually leaning towards the BRG one.
Of course, also thick and with a lot of grain.
Which lining is standard? Quilted or plain?
And which one would you recommend?

The
Quilted was standard except for a period in the 1970s. It’s fairly tough, but I don’t think it adds much thickness or warmth. For a BRG jacket I’d probably go with a black lining, but I don’t think there’s much practical difference.

The red quilted lining is the “archetypal” Lewis Leathers signature, but if you are not fussed about that I think the plain black or red would work well in the main body - and go for the satin sleeve lining - I went for the tougher nylon on my first ones for durability, but the satin is much nicer to the touch and a lot easier for slipping on and off. They also do a nice thick rayon lining - its the grade used by the British military, so it is pretty tough - if you really wanted to go all out I think that lining in gold would look really classy with the BRG. Its what I have in mind for my next one, after a bit of trial and error….

I just spotted a LL Star Lightning (Lightning but with shoulder and arm pads) up on ebay with 5d to go and no bids yet and a sensible starting price - not my size, but looks to be in great condition and my guess is its sheep from the late 70s, as it clearly has that distinctive rippled grain and it looks like a nice thick hide. I can't copy the link over for some reason to share directly, but I'm sure a few FL bloodhounds will be able to track it down if there is any interest….

The Star Lightning was first released in 1977, the first major change to the design since the original debuted in 1958. The original 391 only changed by way of the logo being added in the later 60s, and the forearm zip (from 1966ish). There was a third version from I think 78 onwards, which was the same as the original up to 76, save that the side-buckles, as on the Star Lightning, had been shifted to the rear, intended to give a cleaner look to the front.

That green sheep has a similar grain to the horween bison of my Aero Dustbowl.

so nice. the creases already????? you have some sort of paint mixing machine that replicates that LOL.

Looking forward to your usual brick wall shots. I want to see in outdoors. I'm exactly like Mr. Proper. On that first shot, I'm right on the edge of whether too green or not for my own tastes. But the close up and wider shot look about right for me. I just asked Rip to send me a shot of blue, black, and green together. I think that will help as well.
