I know, but I am more interesting to see how the leather develop over the time.
I think I am going to keep the Enfield as a support of Vanson, and I will keep purchase their jacket in the future.

This looks really nice.

I just pulled all my jackets out to really examine and compare them. Not just a quick grab and feel. What I guessed to be new stuff is about the same as the older stuff. I dunno, may be the same leather for all I know.

I'll never give up on Vanson. If something doesn't jive they fix it. But that new stuff. I'd need a sample to be sure. It's been a number of years but my last new comp weight E.. bending my arms was like trying to curl 145lbs. Out of the box in 2010:

I saw an old banged up modrel F somewhere and thought it looked great as a short jacket. I'm thinking about something super shor,t for myself, like 23 long max, to be worn with 30s style high waisted trousers. Msybe an F, maybe an Ike or maybe a marauder are my first thoughts

I saw an old banged up modrel F somewhere and thought it looked great as a short jacket. I'm thinking about something super shor,t for myself, like 23 long max, to be worn with 30s style high waisted trousers. Msybe an F, maybe an Ike or maybe a marauder are my first thoughts

The F is the same pattern as the B and Enfield, which has roughly 25" backlength in a size 40. if you want a short style, you should look at Mercury/Comet or the much, much underrated Stadium. I love my Stadium jacket.

I've already got a comet inbound (as soon as my proxy can get off her lazy ass and send it) and that's 24.5" so having one of those at 23" long would have to be a custom order.. ergo why confine myself to just this model. Stadium looks good too, and cheap. Any idea how long a stock 40 would be? @jacketjunkie

I own a size 40, will measure it later and tell you. It's really short. I'm surprised the Comet has 24,5" backlength, Vanson must have changed the pattern then. Most you see are 22-23".

That would be appreciated.

Apparently 24 is stock length for a 40 these days, and mine came out half an inch longer

Can someone enlighten me about Octagon, how its brake in compares to Vanson Comp weight or Aero FQHH?

Well that is exactly what I have gone for too @Jejupe and my reason was the same as yours. I am not anticipating much resistance with break in for this one because it's touted as 1.1mm thick, which should be very manageable

It's been a number of years but I did own an octagon model B deluxe around 2012. The octagon then was lighter but every bit as stiff as straight up comp weight. It's a pain in the ass to break in, no question, but the rewards for doing so are unparalleled. Once defeated it's hard to beat Vansons hides. They may not display the same depth of color as CXL but man do they ever conform and crease to the wearer. It's a worthy endeavor.

I love the Octagon look and love heavy and stiff leather. Its just that I have 10+ nice leather jackets which I want to wear. I find that I never have quite enough ”time” to break in a single jacket.

At the moment I have three FQHH jackets and one Comp weight jacket in rotation and none of those are properly broken in yet!

Two other hides not mentioned are the x-150 and z-150. I love the x-150. Breaks in similar to octagon but in a nice, shiny, juicy black. The x is stiffer than comp weight out of box though not thicker, and like Ton said, the break in is effin worth it. Two of my keepers, that I will be buried with, are my x jacket and an octagon jacket. I also have a vest made of both x and octagon. Octagon breaks in wonderfully too.

Is standard Chopper made of X? I tried one on and it was insanely stiff!

So are you saying that x is a heavy one and z is lighter, is that right? If z 150 is midweight I'd lbe interested to know more about it
