ok, you edited, so i get to edit: Check out the thread on Avatar in 3-D a few spots down in this forum. There's a better argument for the inclusion of a talent show than the most high tech thing to ever hit movie theaters. You guys just shot at the easy target poster on this one.

That's fair I guess. I just hate American Idol. And the timing was bad.

Also, I have nothing against Foofoo. She knows her vintage. I have a problem with the mods. But this forum is messy anyway and this thread (and my reaction to it) is the reason I should stay in the Powder Room where I belong. ;-)

I was going to respond more pointedly, but thought refreshing myself first on the law of the land would be helpful. It's quoted below. It sure is eyeopening. If they want to delete a thread on Haiti relief, but keep some random girl jumping off bridges, it is absolutely within their right.

But if the bartenders are going to delete non-vintage pleas for help, it appears as a double standard that something as blatantly non-vintage as this topic is allowed to remain.

I don't mean to appear to jump on your FooFooGal. I suppose it was just the timing of the two Haitian threads being deleted/closed with the arrival of this thread. Nothing personal here!

I agree with Mike. For me, the issue is that bartenders are inconsistent with what threads are deleted and which are retained. The policy is so vague that it is really amounts to the bartender's subjective taste. In closing, the thread deletions are inconsistent and a list or some sort of standards should be outlined in order to clearly delineate what is and is not appropriate. I think such actions are necessary because the deletions have obviously angered some posters.

Unfortunately, Foofoogal received the brunt of an attack that should be directed at the bartenders for their inconsistent thread deletions. I don't condemn Miss Bella Hell, the inexplicable deletions can anger up the blood.

Personally, I believed (wrongly) that the Observation Bar was an off-topic forum where there was greater leniency but I was mistaken.

The mods? What did we do? You jumped all over foofoogal's thread so don't defend yourself by blaming us.
If you have a problem with a moderator it would make sense to send that moderator a pm to resolve your issue, no?

It was a difficult decision, but the thread was removed. This is consistent with long-time Lounge policy. We don't leave threads soliciting charitable donations. We should probably add it to the FAQ. There have been many posted, and promptly removed so you rarely see them. We've removed solicitations for everything from a relative's cancer benefit fund to large, national charities. It is a very difficult thing to do every time. But we behind the bar have agreed that it is less distasteful to remove such threads than to be placed in the position of having to decide what stays and what doesn't as so many strong emotions are always involved.
We ask for your understanding. There are now countless places on the web to find information that will allow you to contribute to the relief effort for what is an absolute and horrifying human disaster in Haiti. We strongly urge those who wish to contribute to do so via those venues.

Yes, this is a 'vintage' forum.

But it has always been a place where we accept those who are less then 24-7 vintage enthusiasts. As such, people here have always talked a bit about modern stuff, be it films, music, fashion, etc.

But picking and choosing -which- modern stuff is ok to discuss in the "topic rooms" (the OB rules differ), ie in this case, Avatar is ok but because American Idol 'sucks' its not, and doing so under the guise of 'But its a vintage board is sort of an impossible thing.

Either we can all discuss Nothing Modern at all, which means stop talking modern music, no discussion of modern films (remakes or not), etc....

or we can accept that there are going to be some threads that are not 'vintage' and also some on topics we don't personally like.

If you ask me, doing the former, would completely change the tone and tenor of the FL to one where only those 'Vintage enough, or full time enough' would feel welcome, instead of one where there are enough different things for everyone. Those that only want to discuss vintage things, need never open a thread that says "American Idol" or "Avatar" in the title.

Having been on both sides of the bar, I can pretty much say that sometimes things are removed for reasons that others don't always fully understand or have explained, or removed to keep a consistent approach to things.

Decisions are made on individual threads, based on the policy for that sort of thread. So I can pretty much say that the removal of a fund raising thread, was done based on the policy of not allowing fund raising threads no matter how great the cause is, and that this thread being allowed, really has to do with the fact that we can discuss -modern- tv and movies in this room.
In both cases, the rules for each type of thread are being held up.

Its a much rougher job then its possible to even share with you all, and to do it -well- is a huge commitment of time, energy, being disliked and misunderstood daily. The staff here are human, and make mistakes, and when you consider that most of them work what amounts to -two- jobs (one to make money, and here because they love it)....

Don't give me that, Michael. "The mods" left this thread and didn't leave the Haiti thread [or any number of random threads that stay and go a a whim]. back at ya. Foofoo and I are doing just fine. Go read my PMs if you'd like to verify this. This thread has officially made me grouchy, which is stupid, because I live in Los Angeles, where it is perpetually 75 and sunny, and I should go out and enjoy it rather than argue about meaningless crap on the internet.

This is the classic FL problem. I really ought to just live with it I guess.

This POST has gone WAAAAAY Off the Movie Screen.

I have come to the thread LATE (as Miss N. said...we have real jobs aside from the FL). I do not want this bickering and bantering in the MOVIES Section. I am VERY open here when discussions are intelligent on FILM, Cinema, etc. I personally do not believe EVERYTHING has to be PURELY VINTAGE.

So...I am closing this thread for now. Reflect that there are rules. Some of you are quite boring where ALL you post is "cut and paste" from other sources, but again, if that is all you bring to the table, so be it.

My PM box is open if you have issue. Now, the movie is about to begin....

EDIT: Since posting this..I went back as a courtesy to FOO FOO and watched the Idol You Tube you began this thread with.
I can honestly say, without prejudice, that watching your clip from YouTube was very painful, and does NOT belong in MOVIES or the Fedora Lounge. Really....
