I think that the $$ would be better spent on intelligence gathering.

As Sun Tzu said, Of all those in the army close to the commander none is more intimate than the secret agent; of all rewards none more liberal than those given to secret agents; of all matters none is more confidential than those relating to secret operations.

What good is a museum relic when the war is one that should be fought in the shadows?

The vast majority of the project was funded by private donations. This has nothing to do with taking money from any war efforts or covert operations or intelligence budgets to fund a museum.

You could use many Sun Tzu sayings to apply to the anti-museum argument. The need for a superior trained or technologivally superior army, the need to strike as a surprise to take the upper hand, to draw first blood.

To me none of that is at all relevant to this conversation. Sun Tzu was also a warrior and had little purpose for anything not directly for war. He would have opposed any museum, but fortunately today we recognize their usefulness and purpose more than he would have.

If the Intrepid is in a decommissioned state, should the taxpayers
be footing a $60,000,000 overhaul bill? Can't this money be put to
better use, and no offense to the historic contribution the ship made
during WWII, but enough is enough.

Ahhh! Finally! A voice of reason! Enough is indeed enough! Will it never end? Need I say more!? :eusa_clap

The Fisher family has given over $50,000,000 to the Intrepid.

And counting..........

S I said above, the money was raised from private sources. Should interested private sources not be able to give to such?

Not at all. The National Liberty Ship Memorial S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien has been successfully and consistently self-funded through ticket sales and event leasing opportunities.

I applaud any such privately funded activities and wish I could contribute myself!

It is EX-USS

This ship is no longer an active duty ship. Thus the Navy does not kick in any money for the ship. It is all privately funded. Just like the S.S. Jeremiah O'Brien.
