Offered for sale is this near mint 37J1 USN leather flight jacket in seal goatskin; tagged sz 44, but I'd call it more of a 42 personally (see measurements). Good kick-around jacket in a lightweight hide, and priced to move at $170/shipped CONUS.

Measurements:
Chest: 23"
Shoulders: 19.5"
Sleeves: 26"
Length: 26"

Did the 37J1 have a three-piece back Bret (i.e. vertical seam below the yoke)? I can't recall having seen that, but perhaps I'm mistaken. Think this one might be a snide snug for me (will check my best fitting A-1).
Do you have a UK shipping price please?

Ian, good question. I am 99.9% sure this is a Headwind or the OEM that makes Headwind's 37J1. It has every single design and material detail as the ones Jay is selling (based on my online observations as compared to what I have in the flesh here), but I cannot be for certain considering this one has a three panel back and the ones Jay advertises are two panel. I'm thinking this may be an earlier prototype or something. But I can't be for sure.

As for int'l shipping. Let's say add $55 for EMS or $35 for first class and if it comes out to being overpaid I refund the difference.

Cool! This was one of our very first jackets made. It is from a time at Headwind when we were still working out the details on the design and the production of the jacket. The back design was an error in the production of the jacket. The actual 37J1 has the two piece back with the yoke, no seam down the middle. Still a solid jacket! That is the 2.5 oz seal goatskin and is very durable. The knits are a cotton / poly blend, not the current 100% wool but the color is spot on and they are durable knits.

Jay, would this be the same grade of leather and the same stitching and detail work as the final production jackets that came later? Is there a difference apart from the three piece back and the knits?

The hide is the same 2.5 oz Seal Goatskin we currently use. There were some other changes after this jacket. The inner buttons are now simulated ivory / bone, and the thread has been changed to medium brown. The top stitching and detail work are the same but the sizing went through several stages of development so this would not be the same measurements as our current size 44.
