Hmmm, I have never had to replace a screen in any of my compacts. I would imagine you could find a very fine mesh at a hardware or fabric store, cut it into the right shape, and edge it in a bit of ribbon.
Perhaps Miss Neecerie has a suggestion? :)

That would indeed work, although do be sure to make sure that it fits firmly down and is not too loose. I can take pictures of screens close up to show you some if that would help.

The other option would work if the compact is a standard size/shape. That would be to find a really beat up ugly compact on ebay that had its screen and to buy it just for the screen. There are some really junky ones out there that go for less then 5 dollars all the time.

On the subject of compacts, I have only one that belonged to my Grandmother. It has the original screen but it leaks powder no matter how little I put in. Every time I open it the mirror is covered in powder, yet the screen seems to fit tightly. I can't figure it out.

On collections: I do not buy things I will not use, such as clothes, shoes, patterns etc. But I do collect vintage dolls, and they are not something that would be used as originally intended. I had a large collection of modern dolls but have been slowly been getting rid of them in favor of ones from the 30's-50's.
