lol Our similarity in taste is so weird! My best friend from high school used to bring her VHS tape of Zorro to school and we'd watch it during our free period.

Brilliant film, A Room with a View!* Anything by Merchant-Ivory is gorgeous (but not necessarily upbeat!). Have any of you seen Enchanted April? Hard to find, but worth the search!

*By the way, they're in post-production of a remake of it, starring Timothy and Rafe Spall, Elizabeth Montgomery, and Sinéad Cusack. Could be wonderful...!

I read "remake" and thought "oh no!" Then I read that cast and thought "yay!" Wow, that could be wonderful is right!--the guy who adapted P&P, and an embarassment of great British character actor riches. I love Mark Williams, Laurence Fox, Sophie Thompson, and Timothy Spall (haven't seen his son but chances are he's good too). Thanks for letting me know about this one, I'll watch for it now.

I saw Enchanted April in the theater (another one I had the poster for until very recently). I've pretty much seen everything Miranda Richardson's done because I worship her. Rose Arbuthnot is one of my favorite character names ever. I love Michael Kitchen and Polly Walker was stunningly beautiful in that movie.

I know...a remake that may actually be worth watching! ;)

Oh, and Timothy Spall's son Rafe is in The Chatterley Affair, which is alright as a film but he's lovely! *swoon*

gets my vote.
Excellent period piece. Great costumes, props, story, dialogue, soundtrack, etc.

Best, Toots

"You boys are dumber'n a bag of hammers." (good choice!)

I would also like to nominate The Music Man.

Aw, lovely movie. Robert Preston is so charming, and I love Buddy Hackett. In the same vein, The Unsinkable Molly Brown is a good one too, although it's not upbeat all the way through. Poor Johnny!
