Wait a minute... the dad from Eight Is Enough was in it??

That IS a fine movie :p

 :p

So no one likes Titanic? I get that the song is annoying, but I thought James Cameron did an excellent job bringing the tragedy to life [huh] Of course I was obsessed by the real story before the movie was ever thought of, so maybe I'm biased.

If that's the case, I should be biased as well.
I have seen tons of documentaries etc. It is when they make love stories out of it that my eyes start glazing over.

That was to bring the story to the masses. Most people are not going to watch a movie scale documentary (I would, by the way, because I love the History Channel). The love story was cute (shut up, it was :p ) and maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but didn't you think the special effects were great and at least gave you a sense of what it was like?

Eyes still glazing over.
The History Channel, Discovery, TLC and a host of others went over the whole thing numerous times. Once in a while something new comes out. The steel being substandard or the rivets being substandard etc.
If I wanted to see special effects, I would watch Avatar---speaking of a stinko movie. It was like a cowboys and Indians movies on another planet with special effects.

I'm not gonna win this one obviously

As for Avatar... if I looked out the window and it was playing in my backyard I'd close the drapes. So we can agree there :D

It was well acted but the story was dire. Maybe just because I'm a man though. You're the first female I've noted that didn't like it

Nothing to do with gender - many of we men adore that film. One of my real favourites, and not only because I love the ending - and ending which, I might add, would never be made in modern Hollywood, more's the pity.

I really dislike the movie 'Titanic' but perhaps that is a popular movie opinion, and not an unpopular one?

If it isn't, it should be. The one thing that film is notable for to me is that it made it acceptable to joke about the Titanic in Belfast. The jokes are strictly about the film, but still. The overall look of the thing was lovely, but James Cameron in many ways proved himself the poor man's Steven Spielberg with that turkey. The worst of it was that we were expected to view as the villain a cuckold, while cheering on his cheating fiance and the lowlife with whom she betrayed the former. Poo on a stick.

"Cowboys spies indians, cowboys chases indians, cowboys shoots indians. Fun for everybody but the indians."

...W.C. Fields on how to make an Epic

Special effects: the last refuge of bad acting/writing/directing.
