Unique 1930's Horsehide Flight Jacket

This jacket almost looks like a predecessor to the 1950's bomber jacket, but with 1930's styling including half cuffs and button pockets. Good shape, nice size, and a low price. UK seller. Worth a look:

I am going to disagree with you. I think this jacket is pre-WWII.

A zipper expert is needed here to break the tie. It's an Ideal straight pull bar.

I thought thirties also, until I saw the back. And I have no basis. Just the instinct that comes with viewing hundreds of them.

Well, if it the zipper were important, this jacket is solidly middle-late 50s. The zipper is a replacement sadly (the stitching is clearly not original) so it doesn't tell us much, unless the stitching has just been "fixed" and the zipper not replaced, but fixed. The important things to look at in the zipper, though, are:

1) the top stop teeth solid rather than "U"-type.

2) The stopper box of late 40s or later type.

3) That type of slider, cast alloy rather than folded.

On more important issues, does anyone else agree that this might have originally been a longer "trapper" style jacket? It looks to me like it might have been shortened, originally having hip-level handwarmer pockets?

Good catch, Baron. It does appear to have been shortened and the bottom replaced with knits. An ingenious solution and creates a rather out of time-looking jacket.
