I understand the three month wait to make the hat but if they don't have your size in a hat that they carry where does it come from? And how do they get it in only a week or two? This seems to happen to me a lot.

Presumably if they're out of stock but it's something that Akubra carry as a regular line (rather than made to order), it can be acquired in a couple of weeks.

I've only ordered from EA a couple of times; I think both orders, from memory, were Capricorns; they kept the tan in stock, but the grey and the white they had to have done to order, so I had to wait three months both times.

They generally tell you if they:

A. have it in hand and it is ready to ship;
B. tell you that they are expecting it shortly as a replenishment for their normal stock; or
C. tell you that they are ordering it for the 3 month wait.

Pretty much a standard retail model.

I am lost and that is nothing new. What does EA mean in this instance?
Ha! Easy to get lost around here. EA stands for Everything Australian, an online retailer that sells Akubra hats along with other Australian products. They are great to deal with, as is Hats Direct, another Australian online Akubra dealer.

AHHH! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I understand a great deal more now and this thread now has come into focus.

What is Everything Australian's normal email communication protocol? On Feb. 9, I ordered a Banjo Patterson and, thanks to the Lounge, a Campdraft. EA emailed me an order number the next day but I have received none of the options Fed in a Fedora identified in post #5. Since I placed my order, EA has changed the availability dates on both hats. How long should I expect to wait before I hear from EA about a projected ship date?

I ordered from them years ago. If you haven't heard from them in a few days contact them and find out what is what. One order I heard from them in less then 24 hours that it shipped. The next order I contacted them three days later to find out there was a delay and it would shipn in two weeks. Just the luck of the draw.
Best to contact them and see where your order is at. Could just be a rush on popular Akubras (strong American dolar) and they need fresh shipment from the factory or wearhouse.
My 2 cents worth

I've had the two week delay on an "in stock" hat. From what I understand, the hat is not actually in stock at EA but it has already been made and is in stock at Akubra's warehouse and just needs to be shipped to EA before it can be shipped to the customer.

Once EA has an "order date by..." they put the order in to Akubra and from there its (sometimes) usually a 3 mos wait. Alot better than 2 or 3 weeks.

Sam lives about 15 hours ahead of most of us, so take that time difference into account when expecting answers - especially as it affects weekends.

I was always told about delivery dates, but then, I did ask when placing the order...

I have been to Sam's warehouse, and he keeps many, many Akubras in stock. It's not a showy retail spot, but a great place to visit. He even gave me a ride back to the train station! Best customer service around. He has always responded to my email within 24 hours, and will send you an email if order details change.

I've ordered two stylemasters from Sam at EA. the first one a moonstone,a non stock colour took three months, the other a carbon grey was in stock, took 8 days to be shipped from Australia to England.
I couldn't fault either Sam or the service I received from EA
