Under our jackets?

Dude, you nailed this observation. My buddy wears jackets of various physical sizes between 46 to 50 and they all look about the same fit on him. I go from 38 to 40 and look like a background gangster in a bad mafia movie.

Same as JMax- mainly black tees and long sleeve henleys. Wish San Diego weather would offer up some variety with colder temps but, hey, the beach 5 mins away eases the pain.

Easy rider helmet T shirt.jpg

"easy rider" T shirt , short sleeve in the summer , Long sleeve in the ahem "winter"
Well this is Perth Western Australia folks !
In cooler months I just wear a warmer jacket , most of my Harley riding mates do the same.
It's me who has the plethora of jacket tho' I must say !
41C yesterday and a 'cool change" to 28C today.
Vanson perforated steerhide café racer both days which is rare for me , usually a different jacket each day.
In fact, yesterday even the perforated Vanson was TOO hot on the way home....

Button up flannel is my go to for warmth under any jacket.

Living in Edmonton Alberta Canada gets real cold so I’m trying a thick vest this year to go over my leather and help me keep wearing my favourite jackets into the -20C range. Perk of the vest is it has hand warmer pockets which are almost a necessity this far north. I’ve never worn leather in winter before as it’s just not that good at keeping you toasty warm. So far the setup pictured below has been tested to -20C and it works. Don’t know if I’d wear this ice fishing all day but it works walking around in the cold for 30min or so. In about 1 month I’ll be able to test it in -30. Exciting ;)

This look works great while it meets the function of warmth and the want of a leather jacket in the deeper cold. I’d been considering a whipcord vest from Iron Heart and your pictures pushed me off the fence.

I’ve never been a vest guy but that whipcord with the alpaca lining inside and on the collar is a thing of beauty. Very well made as all things iron heart. Beware, buying the vest will just make you want to buy the jacket if you don’t already have one.

3 small issues I do have with the vest are that if you want it for over jackets you need to size up which means it looks a little big with just a flannel or sweater underneath. Alpaca lining is very slippery when combined with leather so removing the jacket and vest at the same time requires some though and careful maneuvering. the hand warmer pockets are a little high on the vest. You can still get your hands in there but you have to make a conscious effort to do so. Once your hands are in the pockets they are very deep so your arms can relax and your hands cans stay warm.

If you do buy the vest share some pics. I’d love to see it layered with other items.

Great insight on the three issues. I suppose the vest will have to be a dedicated article to go over the leather jacket. Not sure, then, that I’m willing to spend that kind of IH money for limited usage. I’m still likely to get one to go over a sweater (and maybe under a leather jacket). Cheers!

My preferred combination is a merino wool base layer, with a light merino wool sweater and a leather jacket. If it's colder, then instead of the merino sweater, I put on a heavier wool sweater. That combination can take me down to -15C. That's my daily commute outfits for most of fall, winter and spring, except when it goes below -20C.

And the leather jacket I have for winter (the thickest I have) is the Vanson Enfield.
