"Uncontested - The Champ"

I seem to have missed the one @Wyldkarma posted before, but here's its twin. Champ featherweight in grey. Kasmir Finish. Size 7, unlined with the bound brim at a hair under 6cm and the crown 10,5cm at the pinch. Factory creased, but it suits the hat, even though I'm not a great fan of rake on my hats I'm keeping it that way. It would probably resist another crease anyway. Nice hand to the felt. I have another Champ hat that feels more pedestrian by comparison and the Kasmir Finish on that one is not as good as this one. At 81 grams a fair bit lighter than the Adam Feather-Lite. Guess it depends on the feather. Sleek lines and lovely understated bow treatment. I like it a lot.

This one spiffed up nicely. Like the teardrop crease.

Where are the model names of the Champ hats (Dash, B-17, Featherweight) usually printed? On the liner, sweatband, or inside the sweatband...or other?

SAME as Stetson and MANY other hat companies....Sweatband, liner tip, re-order tag (on newer, 1970's and on) or as in MOST cases nowhere. In many cases the "model" is simply a marketing ploy. You will often find a hat with the same dimensions and features listed with several different "model" names over the years. conversely, often you will see the same "model" with different features and dimensions through the years, and in many cases they little resemble one another.....

As I suspected. Thanks for the confirmation.

Just received this Champ today. As near as I can tell it was never worn, pinched or bashed. The E-Bay photos were crappy so I hoped I was getting a deal. I figured for $50 bucks, take a risk. I'm pretty pleased with it. The model is "Racquet" and the color "Char-Oak." Looks chocolate to my eye. 2 1/2" brim, 1 3/4" sweat, 5 1/2" open crown, 2" ribbon and wind cord attached.

Thank you gentlemen for the kind comments. I wanted to take a moment and thank the regulars who posted in this thread, such as Bolthead, RLK, joshbru3, Frunobulax, Hurricane Jack, Stuer, LBGradwell and many others. I started wearing fedoras only about a year ago and I had heard of Champ hats but really had no idea whether they were worth purchasing. When I saw the auction listing for the Champ I came here to learn what I could about the brand. It was because of you folks that I decided to take the plunge. Based on the auction pictures I didn't know whether I'd purchased a stinker or not. What I did know was that if the hat was in good shape I was purchasing one that was well regarded by folks with experience. It was primarily for that reason I decided to take the risk. I ended up with a hat that I will happily wear on a regular basis. I thank all of you for taking the time to share your experiences, photos, vintage advertisements, ect.
