They are so cute! What sort of era are they meant to be styled from, i'm not very good with dating umbrellas, unless they are very obviously 40's!lol

Oh!!! I adore that umbrella!!! Why does it have to be so expensive!!?! :(

Ohh i didn't even notice the price tag!!!
I saw some 40's umbrellas at a show at the weekend (you know the type, the ones with the patterned fabric and bakelite handles!) for around £11.50 ($21.00) But the only thing is would they still be waterproof lol!

Has anybody bought a vintage umbrella or parasol? Talking pre30s, and the one I particularly have my eye on is about 1915. The question is about usable condition. Not everyday, just how they survive for a quick couple of trips round the sunny garden every year, given that the wood is good and the fabric apparently only has a few wear an tears. Are they really best for display?

LD, I'm glad you bumped this because I've been wanting to show my 2 new umbrellas and see if anyone knows what era they are from. I know nothing about this topic! But I recently saw a little black umbrella for 9 bucks and thought it would be great for some pictures. See avatar! So anyway here it is. I can tell you it's a cotton material, the post is wood and the handle is plastic of some kind:

Now, when I showed it to my mom, she remembered she had an umbrella that belonged to my grandmother. I don't have many things that belonged to her, so I was super excited to get it last week. So anyway, here is that one. It has a tag that says acetate.:

My umbrellas are not to exciting, i just get the ones that you can fold and make very small so i can fit then in my handbag.

Is this an umbrella or a parasol and when's it from?

It appears to be made out or cotton but then there's a hook that makes it look like an umbrella. And black is not perfect for sunny days.

I have a rather lovely collection of unbrellas and parasoles.
Unfortunately my room is now too small where I am living now, but I used to display them from the ceiling.
I have quite an obsession with the things. I think they're darling.
