Ultimate Black Leather Jacket

One cool thing about Good Wear (John Chapman) is that he helps a number of other makers with jackets. If you ask me (and I know, nobody did) that's some serious character there. He's busy as hell, and still helps with people who are in some cases, competition. Some of that detail gets lost in all the bickering, but you brought is up bretron, so I thought I'd extrapolate a little more... :)

Deluxe, your jacket is the one that set it off for me... Thank you greatly for sharing your photos with John on VEB ;)

The Buco doesn't have to be a typical biker jacket. If you look at the old ads, these jackets were worn with chinos and neckwear -- even bowties! And they look very elegant, in fact.

I love the Himmel. I really fancy a button jacket like that one day. That Buco, though.... oh, my. I've developed quite a thing for the D pockets. Good enough for Elvis too....

The HH GW and Himel use does have amazing grain. It's 1.1-1.2mm and has great character. I believe 767fo also posted some shots of his new Himel in the same Japanese hide. This is the one I just finished my order for.

That is gorgeous.... I'm hoping to buy an Aero Pioneer in black (steer, potentially) next year. I'm considering asking if they would do the cuffs with those sort of straps instead of the button cuffs on the standard design. I like the button cuffs, but I already have them on a Thirties Halfbelt and a Bootlegger (the latter as a special offer). Just fancy something different if they'd do it. The one possible drawback I considered was whether it might have a tendency to catch on things.

All this proves is that one leather jacket is useless lol

I don't refer to you people as a bunch of enablers for nothing.... ;)

In a nice reddish, russet.... Mnn..... I'd like to see that in a hide like Aero's goat. Or that really gorgeous reddish-brown tone that I've seen Real Macoys in.... If money comes good, I'd be tempted to drop Mark a line. I have one of his very early jackets, and I can certainly vouch for the quality of his work.

Hey Butte-
I see the Ventura you were trying out is up on John's sale page...How would you rate the blue rayon lining for our California weather? I'm thinking of that one or a cotton plaid in mine.
Thanks

handymike - I should be having a Ventura "built" real soon. I'm in upstate NY, but expect the Ventura to be my lightweight jacket. I like the burgundy plaid cotton that he features in the Ventura model pics, but the wool plaid in the Arcadia pics looks nice as well. I'm thinking the plaid cotton will be cooler and not as itchy...and I really think the burgundy plaid looks vintage.

Yeah, but The King woulda had a black and white one made ;) You can't go wrong with any of these really. So many nice choices that the hard part is narrowing it down. Although the price increases are making it easier to stay "clean" lolAnd, what do you mean "you people"? ;)

Maybe... He did wear a Buco when still young and svelte, but the photos I can find are too indistinct to tell that sort of detail. :D

Mind you, that one looks like it is missing the ciggie packet pocket...

Ha, you're not wrong!

ENABLERS!! lol

A black Aero 30s HB is a very fine classic jacket. Perhaps in vintage black. SJ

Definitely. I was considering that at a time myself, but as I have a brown one already, the Pioneer (something a little different, moreso than just colour) appeals.

Edward,
I was not diggin' those sleeve straps UNTIL I got it in person. I would have not ordered them had I not got to test the Ventura. I'm glad I did. They really add to it, and they don't get in the way or snag on things - well, as much as I could tell in a few short test wears. I am very excited to get this after the long wait. I changed my mind 100 times since I started. Poor John and Vickie must just want me out of their hair! lol

If you're still into the cuff straps, I think Aero would probably be willing to swap the arm design for something else a la Rocketeer's forthcoming Barnstormer. I think he's getting the plainer Stockman sleeves instead the Barn's buttoned cuffs(I may be wrong on models, but the swap is correct :D).
