Uber Owatonna Minnesota leather jackets?

I’ve seen a few of these over the years and wondered if anyone has ever owned one. I’m eyeing one up on eBay now. The company still exists and they are using 3.5oz deer as well as 4-5oz elk, moose and cow. Full custom jackets for a very fair price. I’m curious.

I checked out their website. Wild. Seems like the standard option is that you bring them the untanned animal hide which they tan and make you a jacket from (4 hides for a size 48). That could be an epic custom. At my size i’d only need one buck. The cost would be an accidentally totalled car since i don’t hunt.

I think you can buy the hides directly from them. Or I thought you could. I’m going to send an email and investigate! I really like the one I have pictured above. Looks like a really good winter option. 4.5 oz moose ought to do it. Pile lined, please and thank you.

Very nice find @ton312 ! Get the heaviest, moose hide is really nice heavy so if they have 5oz go for it

Wild is a good adjective! That's the kind of ideas coming to me when checking their website :D

I think they have some cool jackets, the hides offered are tempting particularly because you can get a new one for a good price. Deer or moose please

I seem to remember a thread some time ago that discussed the large number of companies back in the first half of the previous century that operated on exactly this basis: hunters would send in their pelts and the companies (often mom and pop operations) would make them a jacket. As I remember, a great many of the vintage deerskin jackets we see had these origins.

I imagine conversation
Jacket maker: next time, you shoot it on the head, see you just ruined a good panels size here.. this could have been a single panel back ... :(:D

Not damaging the skin is a real consideration for professionals :)

Looks pretty awesome but I got to say I hope I never live somewhere where I would need something that warm. Thankfully I can still get away with just a denim jacket in our 50 degree winters.
