I've been thinking about getting an A-2 in horsehide Russet from U.S. Authentic but I would like to see some pics first from anyone who has one. Anyone here have one that can post some pics and give comments on it?

Thanks fedoralover

Search further down in the Jacket directory - there have been a number of threads about US Authentic in the last couple of months, and I seem to recall that recent shots of all their A-2s were posted. (Actually, some of them may be on the more generally titled A-2 threads, but it if you're genuinely interested in these jackets, it won't hurt you to scan through those too.)

Thanks Doc, I did do a search and read several reports, including yours, that made them sound decent, but I didn't find any pics. I'll go back and do some more searches. But if anyone would like to show theirs off again or for the first time please post your pics.

Doc, I just found them. Thanks for the heads up.

By the way I noticed that the Gibson and Barnes is only about 40 to 50 dollars more, is it the better buy for the money? Or is it not worth the extra $.

Both jackets are nice, but subtlely different. I'd say it's more about the kind of fit you need: if you're thin, the US A will likely fit you better - if you're a widebody, go with the FS.

Check the top of the WWII room for the Reference Library

Have a look in the Reference Library which lists links to all the main A2 makers currently on the market. Also another permanent reference sticky is John Chapmans site which will have photos of the jacket too (a full reference library of repro and original A2 jackets in photos).

Good hunting.

Fedoralover, I won't go into details, as it hardly needs repeating, but I wil say: What Doc says is true. US A is for the skinnier set; G&B is cut fuller. Both are good jackets, though.

Well, I'm 5' 10" and weigh about 165, not thin, but definitely not heavy. I really appreciate the input and will be calling U.S Authentic about sizing and ordering shortly.

Fedoralover:
Based on what you wrote, I'd say you're a definite 38, maybe a 40 reg. I have the 40 russett horsehide and it fits well (I'm 5-foot-11, 160 lbs, arms nearly as long as a lowland gorilla's). Now, all you have to do is break it in! That will only take a generation or so.
OK, I'm kidding, but be forewarned: The US A horsehide is one tough jacket.

Well I ordered a 40 Reg so we'll see how it fits. That's my chest measurement relaxed and the size of sport jacket I wear. I'm anticipating having to send it back to get the arms shortened, but I hope not.

thanks for the input. fedoralover

I ordered a 40r myself. i'm 5' 8" and about 160#. I like the fit, but the arms were too long. I want to be able to wear a sweater underneath it for cold weather wear. I returned it and customized it for shorter sleeves (1 inch shorter, don't want to make it too short), inside chest pockets, and thinsulate. That horsehide is definitely stiff! but the seal brown color is nice and the smell is good too :) oh, and i usually wear 38-40 short in suits, depending on the cut/style.

Hmm, that's actually encouraging for me, if you wear a 40 short and the sleeves were 1 inch too long. That should "hopefully" make mine just right.
