Hello all,

Thought I post a few pics of some military (or military-esque) garments I've found recently in thrift stores.

Garment #1: Is this some sort of bush jacket? I thought at first this was a hunting jacket, with the odd camo pattern, the cut, the waist belt with metal grommets make me wonder. Lined in orange-red nylon/rayon. Small size. Only tag in side says "dry clean only"? Any guesses?

Garment #2: The buttons, pocket styling, side waist tabs, and lightweight poplin fabric looks like WW2/post-war but the tags, which are in Cyrillic, look more modern. I know the Russians re-issued a lot of surplus WW2 uniforms long into the 50s, but I'm no expert. Is this even Russian?

I'm stumped on both of these but I'm sure the resident experts have a few ideas. Have fun, and thanks in advance.

That first camoflage jacket is either a French "Lizard" pattern, or a Cuban "lizard" pattern. The two patterns are very similar, both were used in Africa. The French used that pattern in Algeria and the Cubans in Angola. I believe the Viets copied that pattern for the now famous "Tiger Stripes" seen in the Viet-nam conflict. It makes alot of sense since Viet-nam was a French colony. Some of the early "Advisors" used French camoflage. Tiger Stripes are a study in itself. There are whole books dedicated to that pattern. I own a French Lizard pattern Airborne Uniform. It's one of my prize possession along
with 2 original pairs of Viet Tigerstripes. I not sure if your coat is "Issue" or privately made for an Officer. Whatever it is it's worth some bucks to a Militaria collector.

Now to screw you up even further, I can bet it's Portugese. In fact I believe it is ! They were also screwing around in Africa. Whatever it is it's African conflict something !

Hmm... the plot thickens. Thanks for the info. I'd like to look into it. Any place on the web where I might find Portuguese-African camo clothing pictures?

Such weird wonders one finds in thrift stores! :D
