Tweed 3-pc with 3 buttons and summer wear

I'm thinking I'd like to find a 30s-ish light brown tweed 3-piece with the 3-button SB. Does anyone have one that doesn't fit them or is just looking for a change? I'm a 42 jacket, 36/32 pants. Trolling eBay has resulted in not much along this lines.

Of course, it's getting hot outside and I'm looking for a tweed suit! That makes sense... :p

I picked up a Bill Blass 2-button the other day (at the alterations shop now). All I had to do was get a little length in the jacket sleeves and on the trouser legs. I also had her take the jacket in around the middle for a more classic look--thrift store: $11) that was cut almost like a 3-button. I'd say the lapel started somewhere between the top button and where a third button would go. I can't wait to get it back. It's a very lightweight suit, so that will go good this summer.

But what are you wearing now that it's starting to warm up? My favorite 3-piece suit is a heavy, charcoal wool and it's almost too warm if the sun's out. Linens? Anyone sporting a white or off-white linen (like a Palm Beach) for spring? Although that wool suit has a fairly heavy fabric, it feels wonderful to wear. It's something about the way the waistcoat and tie hugs your body. It makes my Old Navy feel like underwear.

Could always try here. There are some nice looking tweeds in that price range, and here's one three-piece style already made up in tweed. Be sure to ask about floating canvas if you want to be really accurate to the '30s (besides it being desirable with any suit).

sorry for the stupid question but what does floating canvas mean...?

Very interesting and great to know thank you! I come into this as a big fan of classic hollywood (visual) styles but don't know much from the tailoring side.. yet ;)
any other sources of learning you can suggest?
thanks again!

I was almost about to be shocked that someone here shops at Old Navy.

But I will assume you are referring to a suit that you have that is both old and navy.

Well, [hangs head] I do wear Old Navy to work frequently as I'm relatively new to looking decent (still in that computer-programmer business casual mode many days). The old and navy suit is in the mail and should be here any day (pictures forthcoming, assuming it fits okay).

And just for the record, I don't personally shop at Old Navy. My wife bought them all for me. :)

If it's any consolation, I've started wearing my '40s Stetson gray fedora. Just to offset the khaki and straight-bottomed, untucked shirt.

I like Old Navy's boxers, polo shirts, and casual jackets. Their jeans are a nice value too. I'm actually considering getting a short sleeved linen/cotton shirt there for this summer. What I'd really like to find is one like Daniel Craig's in Casino Royale, with the epaulets and all.

Back on topic, I just thought of something. Three buttons can look quite cool and all, but consider that a two button or three button rolled to second button will show more waistcoat. You could also get a higher stance waistcoat or lower three button, both of which are quite vintage-cool.
