Devastator eh?

I hear that name and I still think of the Douglas torpedo bomber that failed so badly at Midway.

I allready proclaimed my favorite Autobots (see previous post), but my favorite Deceptacons were those 5 robots, the Constructicons, who combined to form one larger robot, Devastator.

OMG! I totally forgot about them. Wasn't Voltron a knock off of them?

I'll "out" myself as a child of the 80s and confess to loving the Transformers as well.

The Decepticons always struck me as being cooler - in particular Soundwave. He was depicted in the cartoons as being a sort of chief adviser to Megatron, and the dynamics of their relationship tickled me. Megatron with those gloriously OTT rants, and the cool, monotoned advice of off-sider Soundwave. Plus Soundwave had Ravage, who was just too cool for school. Adding in Starscream with his high-pitched grizzling and constant clumsy attempts to overthrow Megatron, and the manouvering in the Decepticon hierarchy was more interesting than a lot of the battle scenes.

On the Autobot side, I quite liked Jazz. And Skids' long story arc in the Marvel comic book adaptation made him more interesting than one would have thought of this rather dull and conventional character. Mirage was a fun character as well.

I grew up watching Transformers, and it's so funny to me seeing all these shows coming out on either DVD or as a full-feature movie. I won't hold my breath for Rainbow Brite, but there is hope - I was so excited when I learned that She-Ra: Princess of Power was being released on DVD!

As a child of the '70's we had "Micronauts", which were really super cool. We also had "Shogun Warriors", which were robots. They even had the large versions (including Godzilla, which I had!) that were about 2' tall and shot missiles, threw axes, etc.

Number one of all time though, Star Wars!!!

no show can be held in higher regard than Transformers. That was a great kids show. The toys were cool too. And the movie - original release date, 1986 - had the final appearance of Orson Welles, as the voice of the talking planet, Unicron. (can't believe noone mentioned that yet. As i remember it, the "role" involved alot of deep growling and shouting)

New Transformers Cartoons, etc.

Since we're on the subject, has anyone seen the recent Transformers cartoons? They're mostly in 3-D. Most people seem to like the original 80s show better. Can't top that :D

Also, there are new shows of G.I.Joe (now called Sigma 6), which I admit to watching on Saturday mornings.

I downloaded and watched the first Japanese one not long after it came out. They had a Dragon Megatron yelling "Supersonic PAIN WAVE" or somesuch at his foes...

Seeing what they did to it was like watching so many Toy-makers and Animators defecating on a piece of my childhood.
