Hello all,
I went to Toppers of Boston this weekend for look-see, here is the result of my investigation...
Toppers of Boston is located at 230 Newbury Street, a very trendy shopping area of Metro-Boston. Bring lots of coin. A glass of water on Newbury street is $4.50, and the glass is extra.
They have a narrow selection of men's hats. I saw two (yes folks, two) Stetsons. One was a brown felt, either a Chatham or a Temple. The liner was partly pulled out and it was caked with powder. The second was a panama with a distorted brim. There were several Dobs hats present, but the stock was well picked over with there being only one or two styles in only a few sizes. The majority of their stock was "New York Hat Co." stuff. These hats are made from a course finished felt, and while thick and soft, are more country than city hats.
The prices were full retail, with the lone Stetson felt being $110, and the panamas going for $42-$45. Oh yes, the Panama's are on an end of the season close out sale, 25% off the above prices.
The sales girl on duty said that they should be getting in their new fall stock in late October or early November. Can't say I'm going to make a special trip to check them out again. To be frank, its a hat place for folks who don't know much about hats.
