Great read, Josh... thanks for sharing. I wonder if they knew who they were sending this hat to. Maybe this example is like the meal the food critic is served when the restaurant owner recognizes them or sees through their cover? :D

Thanks, Alan!! Maybe they did know who was getting the hat. I have had numerous conversations with the guys over at the Hats-Plus Chicago location about well made Open Crowned modern hats. Maybe they phoned ahead. HAHAHA. ;):D

David, the Biltmore looks fantastic, how do you compare it to the modern issue Borsalino Alessandria?

I have bought two Alessandrias from Bencraft and the felt is very nice, better in my opinion, than in the Biltmore Open Road I just creased tonight, though from the wet dog smell, the Biltmore has more beaver fur in it (as in more than zero).

I see guys bad-mouthing the new Borsalinos, but they're not garbage. They crease up really nicely with little work.

My Biltmore Silver Belly Open Road had signs of previous creasing but probably just someone messing with it. It has no date code.

Hats plus exhausted my efforts for my size being out of stock, however I was shown some love by a fellow lounger whom tossed his new Biltmore in my size, my way. Could not be more satisfied. Easy bash, fits well, nice finish A-1 in my book.

Thanks, I am a happy camper and now can direct my saving efforts for the dream hat from Mr Fawcett. Figure go for the top felt and make it worth my dreaming, to come true!

Thank you David, you are correct, for a new "modern" hat, I could not be happier. Now I can understand the frustration everyone had when HatCo did not give a green light on doing something with the type of specs this hat has. Having no "black" hat for wearing with more dress suits is a hard way to go, had sold off all the black fedoras and felt naked! Not now, however, this will do it for now. I would not have this hat if not for the care of a fellow lounger. Makes it all that much more special. Seriously feeling very blessed.

I got one of the last, if not the last, Hats Plus Wilderness O/R clones in Caribou. I needed to replace my gray Knox Westlite (carpet beetle got to it - those buggers work FAST!) and I snapped up the Biltmore after reading about HP unloading some old stock. Biltmore's Caribou is darker than Hatco's, more of a charcoal gray.

Right out of the box:

Took a quick, dry Diamond crease:

Not anymore!

NOPE! LOL. I'm proud to say that the wonderful members of the fedora lounge have completely cached the entire stock of Biltmore Open Roads! :eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

And there are some people who doubt that the lounge doesn't have an impact in the hat world.....

I picked up my black Open Road This morning. It is a nice hat.It has a Silver Buckle liner, but it didn't come with the horseshoe pin like my Caribou Pinch did.It had a bright red feather, which was promptly removed.
It has the onion skin. It is just a little tighter fit than I like, which suprised me because all of my other 7 3/8 Biltmores are a perfect fit for me. I won't wear this on much, but it is nice to have in my Biltmore lineup.

Hoyt I really like the pin on mine...wonder why you missed out on one?

While I do not wear black often, I have found that it really does go with alot of what I wear.

Too bad I came to the rodeo a little late and missed out on what a nice hat this is.
I would have loved some of the other colors.
