I can vouch for that :D.

Doublegun your Fed can not be worse than this Campdraft!

BTW my red ears are apparently an allergic reaction to a skin product .

Great case in point. Seriously. I'm no hat fetishist, nor Beau Brummel...but, if you take the angle from the point of your chin to the swell of the back of your skull...the angle of your hat, from front to back, matches it. Exactly.

I don't know if this was intended....or is just the result of natural good taste. But (as Amahl says): it's there.

Your CD looks a little high to me, but other than that....what's your issue with that? (Go easy, I am still learning).

Neither do I. But it appears that both barrels have gone off at the same time .

Notice how I'm snickering in the photo. I'm here to have fun and I won't stop until I'm dead :D.

I think this Campdraft may be pushing into characatcher territory [huh].

Hey, Doublegun, we need pics of your Fed.

Good man. My Campdraft seems huge with it's tall crown and wide brim, so I hear ya.

Give it a deep bash

Just give it a deep bash like they did in the 1930s. Here's my Fed III (which has an even higher crown than the Fed IV) bashed Maltese Falcon style:

The bash is 4 1/4" in the front, 3 1/4" in the back, and 4 1/2" on the sides with a 6" open crown.

I just talked to Gus. Did you happen to notice that he's about 80 years old and English isn't his mother tongue?

Yes and yes, athough he would not speak with me directly but through his wife. I was not trying to flame him with this thread - just figure out what the heck he meant.

BTW: pics of my CD and Fed IV coming ASAP.

Something to understand about craftsmen

Most - even most of the best - are not men of style, but artisans dedicated to doing a job the way it ought to be done. This often translates to the way it's done today.

As artisans and workingmen, they are trained to quality and fashion - not style. A style outside fashion really IS poor design to them, because not enough people would pay for it. They are also remorseless positivists - if something is no longer made or available, there must be good reason.

They are traditionalists, but conservative ones: their tradition does not extend back beyond their time. Ask them for an extinct design and they will be concerned that you're wasting your money and will blame them for "doing it wrong," when in (their) reality, the design is "wrong."

Gus is a great hatter and does things his way. He has contributed enough in his life, he can say whatever he wants.

Sure he can, and of course we don't have to agree. Seeing how it's all about style it really doesn't matter.

That post literally sent a warmth of pride in me for you metropd.
As stated subsequently, you don't have to agree. But you certainly should respect.

(DoubleGun, I sense your post was not to flame, but, nonetheless, wanted to commend Five-O for his thought)
